Megan Rapinoe was named 'The Best' female footballer of the year on Monday night, after her outstanding year, where she became a back-to-back World Cup champion, retaining the trophy in France this summer as well as winning the Golden Ball and Boot Ball.

The FIFA Best Player of the Year sent a thank you message through her Instagram account, for the support and dedication to her family, partner, and teammates.

"Sorry it has taken me a minute to get to this, I am having trouble finding my words. There are so many people I could thank who have been so instrumental in me arriving at this moment. To my beautiful family, I love you, thank you. To Sue Bird, no words would do justice. To all my coaches and teammates over the years. This year has been nothing short of magnificent! Looking forward to all the trouble that can be stirred up in the future! - Megan."

Second USA player to win The Best

Megan Rapinoe has had a fantastic year, surpassing Alex Morgan and Lucy Bronze to win the FIFA Best award, becoming the second US women's national team member to achieve it, following on from teammate, Carli Lloyd, who was named Player of the Year in 2016.
