Why isn’t Harry Kane playing for England against France in World Cup bronze medal game?
There’s a Golden Boot up for grabs, but that personal milestone may have been taken away from the Bayern striker.

Harry Kane has been left out of England’s starting lineup for the 2026 World Cup third-place playoff against France, with Ivan Toney leading the line instead.
Why no Harry Kane?
The decision appears to be one of rotation rather than injury. After England’s heartbreaking semifinal defeat to Argentina, head coach Thomas Tuchel has opted to freshen up his side for the bronze medal game, handing opportunities to several players who have seen fewer minutes during the tournament.
Kane has been England’s captain throughout the World Cup and remains one of the team’s most important players. But seven changes have been made from the team that took to the field against Argentina.
Toney comes into the starting XI hoping to make the most of a rare opportunity on the biggest stage. He’s supported by an attacking trio of Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Marcus Rashford, while Morgan Rogers also earns a start in midfield alongside Declan Rice.

What is England’s starting XI against France?
England’s lineup is: Dean Henderson; Jarell Quansah, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Djed Spence; Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers; Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Marcus Rashford; Ivan Toney.
Kane is expected to be available from the bench if needed, but England will hope their rotated side can finish the tournament with a win and a third-place medal.
Why is Kobbie Mainoo not playing?
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo hasn’t played a single minute in the tournament and many thought he would get his chance today. Ahead of the game, however, it was reported that he was injured and not part of the squad.
