Chelsea manager Frank Lampard sang the praises of Christian Pulisic who played a decisive role in this evening’s 0-1 Champions League win away at Ajax. Pulisic replaced Willian 66 minutes into the match and had an instant impact. With four minutes of normal time remaining, he set off on one of his dazzling runs down the left, beat Ajax right-back Sergiño Dest with a stepover and laid the ball for Michy Batshuayi to fire home the winner.

The result puts Chelsea level on points with Ajax in Group H ahead of next month’s meeting between the two clubs at Stamford Bridge. Lampard was clearly delighted with Pulisic, saying after the game: “The performance tonight and the last couple off the bench show what he has got. I understood the quality of Christian, he is just 21. I have options. Christian wants to know what is going on always. I have stayed calm with it. He wants to do well. Training like he has makes me very happy.

"We respected Ajax and that’s how we should be,” the Chelsea coach continued. “The great thing at the moment is the desire and I think we are heading in the right direction - the signs are good. Five wins in a row can be dangerous, six wins could be even more dangerous. I just came to work. I knew there was quality in the squad and I’ve always believed in them”
