Lowest attendance figures at the Bernabéu: 53,160 watched Leganés match
Factors such as it being a mid-week game, before a Bank Holiday and with rain forecast contributed to the low turn-out, beating the 57,520 figure for the Osasuna game.
Wednesday's league between Real Madrid and Leganés drew the lowest crowd so far this season at the Santiago Bernabéu. Just 53,160 spectators turned up for the game, the smallest attendance in the six matches played at the Bernabéu since the new campaign kicked off. A series of factors contributed to the poor turn-out - it was a late kick-off on a midweek day (the match got underway at 21:15 hours, handy for workers but not for school children), with a public holiday coming up which many residents in Madrid making the most off to have a long weekend and if that wasn't enough to deter the punters, there was also forcast of heavy rain in most of Madrid throughout the day.
Bernabéu attendance in decline
Prior to last night's game, the lowest attendance at the Bernabéu of the season to date was 57,520 for the Week 6 visit from Osasuna at the end of September. Those figures show a drop of around 4,000 which was precipitated by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Juventus. The home attendance figures for the other games this season are: 62,444 (Valladolid), 60,401 (Levante), 65,112 (Club Brugge) and 70,101 (Granada).
