The Ex-Real Madrid and current Porto keeper has taken another monumental step in his bid to return to action following his heart attack scare in May.

Six months and three days since he suffered a heart attack during training with Porto, Iker Casillas has donned his boots and taken to the training pitch.

The ex-Real Madrid shot-stopper took to Twitter on Monday to post a picture of his grass stained boots, along with the message: “6 months and 3 days you have been in the locker.”

According to what AS has learned, the 38-year-old managed to train alone for between 20 and 25 minutes, making slight contact with the grass.

While he is still not in a position to return to training with his team mates, the Madrid-born keeper expressed his happiness at being able to take this monumental step towards his return, after many commentators had initially claimed he would never play again.

Casillas’ Porto return: work in progress

It’s not the first time that the Spanish great has posted updates of his recovery. A few weeks ago, he delighted fans by publishing a photo of himself on a treadmill accompanied with the message: “Work in progress”.

Casillas is currently acting as a liaison between the squad, the coaching staff and the Porto boardroom, a role offered to the Spanish player on a provisional basis as he continues his recovery.

In August the 38-year-old was a late inclusion on Porto’s list of registered players for the Primeira Liga 2019/20 season, as both he and the club pin hopes on his return.
