The work being done at the Al Thumama stadium, one of those that will host matches in the 2022 World Cup, is making great progress. The steel roof has been raised over the entire perimeter of the stands and the goals have already been installed.

On the 'Road to 2022' official twitter account of the Delivery and Legacy Committee - those in charge of projects and initiatives for the World Cup in Qatar - photos were published showing the development of the stands that will bring together 40,000 fans and host a selection of games up until the quarter-final stage.

With a view to provide medical services to the players who will be participating at the World Cup, an Aspetar branch (the sports medicine and orthopedics hospital) has been situated inside the stadium. After the World Cup has ended, half of the seats will be dismantled and donated to countries that most need them, while the hospital element will remain. There they will continue to offer support to athletes, whether in Qatar or from further afield.

As for its location, the stadium lies to the south of Doha, and its design was inspired by the shape of Al Kahfia, a traditional headdress worn by men in Arab countries.
