Ter Stegen: A fine performance. Despite the fact that Dortmund weren't great for most of the game, Ter Stegen made a string of saves in the second half including a wonderful stop from a Sancho piledriver. For any Germany national team fans or coaches watching, this was a performance that might raise some more questions as to who their number one is - 9.

Sergi Roberto: Returned to his role as a right-back after being suspended for Leganés. Endless running and offering himself as an option. He was one of the most active players used to break down Dortmund's defence. Defensively sound - 8.

Umtiti: The first time to play two consecutive games in a very long time. But he continues to perform at a high level. Very good anticipation in the area, solid when needed too. They have recovered the best version of Big Sam and there is competition at the back again - 8.

Lenglet: A game without a single blemish from the French defender, who continues to show he is one of the most complete central defenders around. Returned to action and proved himself after missing the Leganés game - 8.

Junior Firpo: One of the best games he has played as a Barcelona player. Very good defensively and used his speed several times in transition. Missing a small bit of courage to get into the box and attack like Jordi Alba but it seems to be coming together for him slowly. Too timid, at times, with the ball at his feet - 7.

Sergio Busquets: Spectacular in combining with teammates when he recovered the ball. A lesson in how to play the defensive pivot role. Continues to show that football is easy when you think quick. The team will miss him on Sunday at the Wanda Metropolitano - 9.

De Jong: Hardly put a foot wrong. Was helped with the movement ahead of him and played with a lot of energy as he slowly finds his feet in Barcelona's midfield. He never plays poorly and is regularly very good. Another player who makes it look easy - 8.

Rakitic: Valverde gave him his second start of the season and while he started slowly, it's to be expected given his lack of regularity. After that, it was a typically hard-working performance from the Croatian - 7.

Dembele: Another unfortunate injury will overshadow his good start to the game. Linked well with Messi a number of times but was subbed off after 24 minutes and looks like another lay-off awaits - 7.

Suarez: Scored one that was offside and then made no mistake shortly after to give Barcelona the lead. His link-up play is still excellent and found Messi for the second. A fine performance if never spectacular - 8.

Messi: Another masterclass. Brilliant, as always. Scored and assisted two. Very few words, if any, left to describe him. Dribbling past players at will and create several other chances for teammates as well as hitting the crossbar with a free. Fair to wonder if he is actually getting better - 10.

Substitutions

Griezmann: Linked up better than he has previously with Messi and Suarez. Got a goal from a lovely pass from Messi. Came on for Dembele in the first half and took a while to heat up but played well. Took his goal very well and might have had a second but finishing let him down.

Arturo Vidal: Came on to add muscle and try to slow down a late Dortmund surge. Did his part.

Wagué: Played for the last two minutes and made no impact in a game that was already over.
