RB Leipzig have looked like being on the front foot in the race to sign Erling Haaland, despite the the Norwegian striker, currently enjoying a phenomenal season at Red Bull Salzburg,  being chased by teams such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. However, there is one stumbling block for the team coached by Julian Nagelsmann - the salary being demanded by Haaland. According to German daily Bild, the Norwegian is demanding eight million euros net a year (he's currently on one at Salzburg) while Leipzig are so far unwilling to go above five.

Borussia Dortmund hopeful of landing Haaland

This could open the door for Borussia Dortmund, who have been hot on the heels of Haaland and hopeful of doing business in the winter transfer window. Haaland's buy-out clause is only 20 million euros, which looks like an absolute bargain for a 19 year old striker who has scored eight goals in the Champions League group stages this season.

According to various media outlets in Germany, Haaland and his agent Mino Raiola have met with executives from Borussia Dortmund, with the thinking that the Bundesliga, in particular Leipzig or Dortmund, could be a good stepping stone before moving to one of Europe's very biggest clubs. Haaland's salary desires could make Dortmund the favourite, despite things initially looking favourable for Leipzig.
