BARCELONA

Barcelona player ratings vs Espanyol

Barcelona dropped two points against LaLiga's bottom club as Frenkie de Jong was sent off and they conceded twice despite taking a 2-1 lead.

Barcelona player ratings vs Espanyol

Neto - didn't have a whole pile to do and couldnt' do anything for the first goal. Not sure if he could have might have closed Wu Lei down for the second but got Barça in trouble with a late goalkick that was intercepted. Not bad but not great - 6.

Sergi Roberto - linked well with Messi at times in the first half as he overlapped when the Argentine dropped out to the right. Grew into the game and was forced to play in the middle once De Jong was sent off - 6.

Pique - brought the ball out with authority at times in the first half when Barcelona were looking for a way through and was Barça's best defender. Battled well with Calleri and while he wasn't at fault for the dropped points, it wasn't his most commanding performance in a Barcelona shirt although he was good in the air defensively - 6.

Lenglet - couldn't get to grips with Calleri at all and was left for dead for the late equaliser as Wu Lei crept in behind him. Becoming clearer by the game that Umtiti will take his place if he doesn't wake up - 5.

Jordi Alba - along with Suarez, he dragged Barcelona back into the game. He covered a lot of ground on the left but was caught out for the second goal as he pressed and Wu Lei snuck in behind him to take it and score - 7.

Busquets - constantly fighting against his teammates errors and trying to recover for them. Played very well between the lines and always an option to take the ball and find a teammate - 7.

De Jong - Negated anything good he might have done by dallying on the ball deep in his own territory before being sent off for a second yellow. Gave away the free for the first goal and was pretty poor from that free too as Lopez headed home. His worst day in a Barcelona shirt - 3.

Rakitic - Misplaced pass early looking for Messi and it didn't get a whole lot better for him after that. He was whipped off at half-time having had no positive impact on the game - 3.

Messi - showed flashes of his brilliance and he is never truly 'poor' but this wasn't a good game given his high standards - 7.

Suárez - picked up the slack for Messi's off day and was brilliant in the second half. Had one goal, assisted another and looked dangerous. He couldn't do it all alone though - 8.

Griezmann - showed flashes in the first half but faded when the pressure was on and was taken off in the second half. Flashes of his old self won't cut it in the business end of the year and you still get the feeling that he hasn't settled properly at the club - 5.

Substitutes

Arturo Vidal - scored a goal and continues to convince when offered opportunities. Opens things up for his teammates too and is a willing runner when others aren't - 8.

Nelson Semedo - came on late when De Jong was sent off so Roberto could play in midfield.
