Rennes in crisis over Real Madrid Camavinga talks - L'Équipe

L'Équipe has reported that Rennes president Olivier Létang has been sacked because of talks he held with Real Madrid over Eduardo Camavinga.

Rennes unexpectedly sacked president Olivier Létang on Friday, offering no explanation for the chief's dismissal in their announcement of the move.

Summer Madrid talks over Camavinga bring about Létang exit

However, the French newspaper L'Équipe has this weekend claimed that negotiations between Létang and Real Madrid over starlet Eduardo Camavinga are the chief reason behind the Ligue 1 club's decision.

With Madrid among a host of top sides interested in Rennes' 17-year-old midfielder, Létang is said to have held summer talks with Los Blancos without the approval of his club's board, leaving owner François-Henri Pinault fuming.

Rennes hit new heights under fired chief

Under Létang's stewardship, Rennes have enjoyed the most successful period in their history. Having lifted their first trophy in 48 years when they won the 2019 Coupe de France, they are well placed to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Wenger rumoured as contender to replace Létang

However, Létang's talks with Madrid appear to have proved enough to end his tenure at Roazhon Park, with former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger among the names being mooted as his possible successor.
