“Carlos Vela won’t play in team that doesn’t make him happy”

Eusebio Sacristán coached Carlos Vela for three seasons when both were at Real Sociedad and he enjoyed having the Mexican winger during that time.

Carlos Vela is currently playing his third season in Major League Soccer and he has already become one of the best players in the history of this league by breaking many individual records.

Vela won the MVP award last year with Los Angeles Football Club and is having one of the best moments in his career as a soccer player. The level he is showing in the MLS compares to the time he was at Real Sociedad when Eusebio Sacristán was the head coach.

Sacristán coached Vela for three seasons and says that the player just wanted to be happy playing soccer even though the Mexican winger had many critics for coming to the MLS instead of continuing his career at a big club in Europe.

Vela has done and been whatever he wanted as a soccer player. He wished to be happy playing soccer, accomplishing important things and he did in Spain with Real Sociedad. At my time in San Sebastián he was one of my most important players, we were competing in the Champions League and trying to be at the top of the table in La Liga,” Sacristán commented.

Before the beginning of the current season of the MLS it was rumoured that F.C. Barcelona wanted to sign Carlos Vela for the remainder of their season but Sacristán thinks he knows why that would never happen.

“I think Carlos wouldn’t accept the offer because he is very happy with LAFC and he only wants to play in a league and a team that makes him happy. So far he is showing his virtues by scoring goals and giving assists... and he wants to win the MLS Cup.”

The current captain of LAFC arrived at Real Sociedad after playing with many teams in Europe in 2012. Vela played a total of 250 games in all competitions, scored 73 goals and gave 44 assists.
