According to Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, there have been 442 confirmed coronavirus cases and 13 deaths in Nigeria, while 152 people in the country have recovered after contracting Covid-19. The country added one new death to their total in the last 24 hours.
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide at the above time stood at 2,182,023 .
145,513 people have died from Covid-19 and 547,092 have recovered from the disease.
UNICEF received a delivery of vital health supplies to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria on Thursday
The supplies include 10,000 test kits, 15 oxygen concentrators, personal protective equipment (PPE), vaccines, emergency health kits and other vital health supplies, which will support the Nigerian Government’s COVID-19 Response Plan and UNICEF work in support of children and families in Nigeria.

Nigerian security forces killed 18 people in two weeks while enforcing lockdowns imposed to halt the spread of the new coronavirus, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said.
Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa's most populous country and biggest energy producer, has recorded 407 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths from the highly contagious lung disease.
Lockdowns initially slated to last 14 days were put in place on March 30 in the southern commercial hub Lagos, neighbouring Ogun state and the capital Abuja. They were extended on Sunday by two weeks and other states, such as the northern economic hub Kano, have also imposed restrictions.
The NHRC, an independent body, said in a statement dated April 15 that there had been "eight documented incidents of extrajudicial killings leading to 18 deaths" between March 30 and April 13.
Fresh UN supplies arrive in Nigeria
The United Nations on Thursday delivered a fresh batch of medical equipment and other vital supplies to Nigerian government to further aid its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, UN’s Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, said that the supplies were funded by APM terminals.
According to him, the supply is made up of 10,000 test kits, 15 oxygen concentrators, various personal protective equipment (PPE), vaccines, IEHK/PEP kits and other vital health supplies.

New York on lockdown through to mid May
State Governor Andrew Cuomo has extended the New York state shutdown to 15 May. Another 606 people have died from the virus in New York, the lowest figure in 10 days, bringing the total above 12,000 in the state.
Five patients discharged
Five patients who had previously tested positive for Covid-19 were discharged from the state Mainland Hospital in the Yaba suburb of Lagos this afternoon. The patients, three females and two males, tested negative for the virus twice. The state has registered 90 positive cases of infection and 10 deaths since the pandemic started.

Covid-19 and Lassa Fever
Coronavirus isn't the only health worry for Nigerians during the current pandemic. An outbreak of Lassa fever has claimed more lives since the start of the year according to the country's health authorities with the current death toll at 188 - 12 times the number of fatalities from Covid-19.
The Lassa virus is carried and spread by rats and humans can get infected through eating contaminated food or by touching household objects. Around 1000 positive cases of infection from Lassa virus have been recorded in 2020 although 80% of people those who become infected show no symptoms. It has a mortality rate of around 1% according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Victims Support Fund (VSF) set up a special Covid-19 task force at the start of the month to provide one billion naira worth of food, water, medical supplies and essential non-food items to those in a vulnerable situation because of the coronavirus crisis in Nigeria.
Chairman of the Victims Support Fund, Gen TY Danjuma said, "As a country, we must all do what we can to ensure that the spread is curtailed". He also urged the committee to embark on massive sensitization campaigns amongst vulnerable groups to inform and educate them on the best hygiene and sanitation practices in order to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Food and medical supplies are arriving in Abuja and Lagos through the Victims Support Fund programme with volunteers delivering parcels to the most vulnerable areas. The Nigerian government has also started search and sample testing in a bid to curb the rise of coronavirus infections in the country. As of Thursday, 12 people had died in Nigeria as a result of Covid-19-related illnesses while 407 positive cases had been registered.

Nigerian doctor dies from Covid-19 exposure
Prominent Nigerian doctor Emeka Chugbo has died from complications related to coronavirus infection at his clinic in Lagos. Doctor Chugbo was admitted to Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Monday with "severe symptoms" and died on Wednesday, the BBC report. The 60-year-old had been treating a patient at his own private clinic, and it is believed that he caught the Covid-19 virus from the patient, who died last week.
On Saturday a doctor in the northern city of Daura, Aliyu Yakubu, became the first doctor to die of coronavirus-related illness in Nigeria.

Nigerian security agents have killed 18 people in their enforcement of measures to curb coronavirus, a figure higher than the documented toll inflicted by the disease, the country's human rights body said.

Busquets casts doubt on LaLiga season resuming
Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has cast doubt on LaLiga's 2019-20 season being resumed as Spain battles to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
