Second stimulus check: what is the Cares 2 Act and when will it go to the Congress and Senate?
Democrats are trying to push through another bill as soon as Monday or Tuesday but Republicans are wary of further public spending while the economy is shut down.
Democrats are moving forward with a second stimulus package that would see another check sent to millions of Americans. The first relief package was part of CARES Act say Americans receive $1,200 and the second care package, named CARES 2 Act, would be another trillion-dollar initiative aimedat helping Americans.
Republicans, however, want to wait to see how re-opening the country affects the economy before they commit to further spending. According to The Hill, however, the new bill — the fifth legislative response to COVID-19 — could arrive as early as Monday or Tuesday of next week.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat, said in a notice to members Tuesday afternoon that the House is expected to meet Friday morning to vote on the legislation.
"That will not pass. It's not going to be supported," said Sen. John Barrasso, a member of Republican leadership in the chamber.
“The Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank has told us to 'Think Big' because interest rates are so low,” Pelosi wrote to Democrats in a Mother’s Day message. “We must ‘Think Big’ For The People now, because if we don’t, it will cost more later. Not acting is the most expensive course.”
