Mark Zuckerberg explains why Facebook didn’t do anything about Trump’s post
While Twitter confronts the president of the United States, Mark Zuckerberg explains that Donald Trump did not violate Facebook policy with his comments.
Mark Zuckerberg said that United States president Donald Trump's post about shooting alleged looters in Minneapolis did not violate Facebook policy.
The Facebook CEO also said he had been “struggling all day” with how to respond after Twitter decided to slap Trump’s post with a warning label.
Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook wall what he thought about the situation, “I disagree strongly with how the President spoke about this, but I believe people should be able to see this for themselves, because ultimately accountability for those in positions of power can only happen when their speech is scrutinized out in the open,” he said.
Zuckerberg had been talking to the White House on Friday to explain the company's policies as Trump had posted on Twitter and Facebook that “when looting starts, the shooting starts,” a phrase that most of the readers interpreted as a threat to shoot American citizens that are protesting the killing of George Floyd.
Twitter took a similar route
While Facebook decided to keep Trump's message, Twitter also did the same but put it behind a warning label so that users would need to click through to read it. The move angered Trump, who has threatened to take action against the company.
