According to the latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University, 6,390,085 cases have been detected worldwide, with 383,226 deaths and 2,771,084 people now recovered.
In India, there have been 216,805 cases confirmed, 6,088 people have died and 104,071 people have recovered from the virus.

Second biggest single-day rise in deaths from Covid-19
India suffered its second biggest single-day rise of Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday with 254 fatalities due to the virus. The grim figures have only been superseded once - the 270 deaths registered on 29 May. The majority of the fatalities were recorded in Maharashtra (122 - 48%). In total, 8,723 patients tested positive for Covid-19 as India marked a sixth consecutive day with over 200 deaths, taking the total past the 6,000 mark.
New PPE designs deals with sweating problem
The Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a device -- SUMERU-PACS -- that helps wearers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) comfortable without sweating.
PPE wearers feel uncomfortable after wearing PPE for more than 30 to 45 minutes and start sweating. DRDO has developed a personal air circulation system which can be used inside PPE as a small backpack which weighs around 500 grams and works well at an ambient temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and keeps the wearer comfortable and cool without sweating

The number of fatalities from Covid-19 in India reached 6,088 on Wednesday. The total number of confirmed cases rose to 216,715 while 104,030 have recovered from the virus.
SNSF announces Indo-Swiss Joint Research Programme
The Swiss National Science Foundation has announced details of funding for several research projects that will be conducted by Swiss and Indian teams as part of the Indo-Swiss Joint Research Programme (ISJRP). Grants will be given for Joint Research Projects (JRPs) - including research in Covid-19.
Minor earthquake hits Noida
An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude rocked the surrounding area of Noida in the national capital region (NCR) at 22:42 hours on Wednesday night, a central government agency said.
The epicentre of the quake was 19 km southeast of Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of western Uttar Pradesh adjoining Delhi, the National Center for Seismology said.
Cabinet go-ahead for MoU with Bhutan on environment, natural resources
The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bhutan for cooperation in the field of environment protection and management of natural resources, The Hindu reports.
The MoU, cleared at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “will enable establishment and promotion of closer and long-term cooperation in environment protection and management of natural resources on the basis of equity, reciprocity and mutual benefits, taking into account the laws and legal provisions in each country,” the government said.
WHO set to resume hydroxychloroquine trial in battle on COVID-19
The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to resume its trial of hydroxychloroquine for potential use against the new coronavirus, its head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday, after testing was suspended due to health concerns.
Tedros also told an online media briefing he was "especially worried" about the outbreak in Central and South America, where infections have been spreading rapidly.

Mumbai streets deserted as India's biggest city braces for cyclone
(Reuters) The streets of Mumbai emptied on Wednesday as a rare cyclone headed for India's most populous metropolis and thousands of people moved away from the coast, adding to the pressure on authorities grappling with coronavirus.
India's largest container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), on the outskirts of Mumbai, was also ordered to shut for 24 hours, the port said in a statement. The cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea "is very likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 6 hours," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

India's coronavirus cases cross 200,000, peak still weeks away
(Reuters) India's coronavirus infections crossed 200,000, official figures showed on Wednesday, and a peak could still be weeks away in the world's second-most populous country, where the economy has begun re-opening after a lockdown imposed in March .
Cases jumped by 8,909 over the previous day in one of the highest single-day spikes, taking the tally to 207,615, the health ministry said.
"We are very far away for the peak," said Dr Nivedita Gupta, of the government-run Indian Council of Medical Research. Government officials have previously said it could be later this month, or even July, before cases start to fall off.

Cyclone Nisarga will make landfall near Ailbaug which is about 100 km away from Mumbai. The cyclone will hit the shore with the wind speed of 110 kmph, which can go up to 120 kmph, and will bring with it heavy rainfall, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the next Group of Seven summit, India's Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday.
