‘El Tráfico’ moves to Disney: LAFC will face LA Galaxy in the group stage

Major League Soccer is ready to return to action with the tournament 'MLS is Back' to be played in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from 8 July to 11 August. Yesterday they announced that there would be 54 games, 26 teams, 6 groups and 1 champions. The top seeds were also defined and today the league held its draw ahead of the beginning of the tournament.

One of the biggest games in the group stage is going to be the ‘El Tráfico’ Derby of Los Angeles between LAFC and LA Galaxy. This match became one of the biggest rivalries in the league with Carlos Vela (LAFC) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (LA Galaxy) making it a major event as they turned on the style in every game.

This year, of course, things have changed, because Ibrahimovic has gone, but LA Galaxy signed Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez to attempt to fill the hole the Swedish striker left. Since Galaxy announced the signing of the Mexican striker the fans from Los Angeles and the entire league have been eagerly awaiting the day of the match between LAFC and LA Galaxy this year.

Last year LAFC made it to the MLS Cup semi final and that automatically put them as the top seed of Group F. After Thursday’s drawing the team captained by Carlos Vela will have to play Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy.

This will be the first time Chicharito faces Carlos Vela and LAFC but the clubs have met on six occasions with Galaxy having the better record 2W-1L-3D. The only time they lost was in last year's Western Conference playoffs at the Banc of California Stadium.
