Amidst the continuous extension of lockdown as a result of the rising Covid-19 crisis in India, the government issued the travel e-Pass that people can use to travel across the country and among different states.

The Indian government understands that some people will be urged to travel back to their home states or will be forced to leave their homes to deal with emergencies during lockdown. They will also face some obstacles with the movement restrictions across the country and the suspension of aviation.

As a result, the government started the e-Pass service that people can get online, which gives them the right to travel from one place to another during lockdown.

How to get your e-Pass

To get the lockdown e-Pass, all you need to do is visit the website of the National Informatics Centre. Then you choose the state from a dropdown menu, before choosing a relevant reason why you need the e-Pass from the following menu:

- Essential services

- ePermit for stranded persons and migrant labourers

- Exempted activities during Lockdown

- Delivery of essential commodities

- Covid-19 disaster

- Movement pass for curfew/lockdown

- Vehicle movement

- Stranded person registration

- E-transit pass

After you finish filling out the application and scanning the required documents, there is an application reference number that you need to keep.

An important note to bear in mind is that the government doesn't necessarily approve all the applications received, which is why it's important to check the e-Pass status on the same website through the option "track your application" to make sure that your request has been approved.

The e-Pass has been applied and used in more than 15 Indian states, so far, including Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.
