Ramos scored the penalty, won by Carvajal, that saw Real Madrid claim all three points against a very decent Getafe side who made Zidane's men work extremely hard.

Real Madrid struggled for most of the match against a well-organised, spirited Getafe who had a game plan and executed it superbly, although they created few chances. The home side were disjointed and failed to gel, with the midfield struggling to impose themselves on the fast movement of Getafe, but Zidane's side managed to take all three points to go four points clear above Barcelona at the top of LaLiga thanks to a Ramos penalty, which he slotted home right having initially appeared to be going for a panenka.

Real Madrid ratings vs Getafe:

Courtois

He stops everything and is on course for his third Zamora 'Best keeper of the season' title (minutes / goals conceded), his first with Real Madrid. In the 8th minute he got a hand out to somehow deny Etxeita's fast effort off his knee and again in the 12th to stop Mata, diving to his left. It wasn't all perfect though as he made two clear mistakes with his feet. This was his 19th shut-out in 38 games this season. 8/10.

Carvajal

He had to cope with the hardest man on the pitch to deal with, Cucurella, and he just about coped. He picked up a yellow for one of his lunges on Cucurella, and should have given away a penalty for a foul on Olivera, but got lucky with the ref's call. As ever he was keen to get up the pitch and help out in attack, and on his best run he forced the penalty. 7/10

Varane (subbed off injured after 32')

He was the best defender while he was on the pitch, strong in the challenge and reliable on the ball, but he took a corner kick straight in the face just before the hydration break and never really came back to his senses. 7/10.

Ramos

The spiritual leader, with his usual huge physical presence doing his best to stop a highly intense Getafe side. He got into attack when he could, starting one counter and nearly finishing it with the final ball to Isco, who shot tamely. He was booked after 26 minutes, but his big moment was in the 79th when he slotted home the penalty, to make it 21 in a row. Ramos to the rescue. 8/10.

Mendy

He nearly set up Vinicius to make it 1-0 with one of his few decent bits of play, but Soria was equal to the Brazilian's shot. He was all over the place the rest of the time. 3/10.

Modric (subbed after 63')

He spent the evening trying to work out ways to get between the Getafe lines, but never found even the smallest crack. Had not a bad shot on the 58th minute. 5/10.

Casemiro

The most Getafe-style Real Madrid player, he got stuck in and went toe-to-toe with the Getafe players, handing out and receiving knock after knock. 6/10.

Kroos

Got better as the game went on, but he started so invisibly that didn't mean much. Smothered by Getafe, basically. 4/10.

Vinicius (subbed after 63')

Marked out of the game with no supply to speak of. His one superb effort was equally well stopped by Soria. 5/10.

Benzema (subbed after 92')

A nomadic existence for the Frenchman, wandering around the pitch trying to work out how to help his team-mates, who were constantly on the look out for him. But mostly it came to nought. A decent shot after two minutes, another attempt in the 68th. But little other positive impact. 5/10.

Isco (subbed after 63)

The man from Málaga struggled terrible under the never-ending Getafe pressure, and never got his game going. At the hydration break Zidane spent the entire time explaining to him how to break free of the shackles, but he never managed it. 3/10.

Real Madrid substitutes vs Getafe

Militao (came on after 32')

He came on for the discombobulated Varane, and seemed to settle quickly, breaking down Getafe attacks and showing some style on the ball, but it all went wrong in the second half, where he was booked for a foul on Cucurella and had to rely on Ramos to save him on a number of occasions. 4/10.

Fede Valverde (came on after 63')

Lacking precision and out of position without a trace of the star player he was before Covid-19 brought everything to a halt. Zidane's decision to play him less and out on the right has done him no favours. 3/10.

Asensio (came on after 63')

Some decent runs, he gave Madrid a more attacking feel with his direct game. 6/10.

Rodrygo (came on after 63')

Started with a decent run, then two very dangerous crosses that just lacked a final toe on them. Spirited throughout. 6/10.

Mariano (came on after 92')

Didn't even have time to work up a sweat.
