Hollywood has made an appearance at Spain’s World Cup quarterfinal. Oscar winner Javier Bardem was spotted in the stands for Spain’s showdown with Belgium, cheering on La Roja alongside his wife, fellow Oscar-winning actor Penélope Cruz.

Bardem has never hidden his love for Spanish football. A lifelong supporter of the national team, he has regularly attended major international tournaments and has spoken proudly about following Spain wherever his schedule allows. With a place in the World Cup semifinals on the line, this was another occasion he clearly did not want to miss.

The couple, who married in 2010 after starring together in several films, are among Spain’s most recognizable international celebrities.

Their appearance quickly caught the attention of television cameras, with fans sharing clips and photos across social media as the tension built inside the stadium.

Spain are aiming to reach another World Cup semifinal, where France await, and having two of the country’s biggest film stars backing them from the stands only added to the sense of occasion. Whether Bardem and Cruz prove to be lucky charms remains to be seen, but they were certainly among the highest-profile supporters watching one of the tournament’s biggest matches.
