MLS, NBA remain in Florida, the new epicenter of US coronavirus

The United States is facing a spike innew coronavirus casesafter several states decided to reopen their economies back in May. When the pandemic started in March, New York became the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the US but since easing lockdown restrictions Florida has become the new focal point of the outbreak.

According to numbers published by Johns Hopkins University the United States reported 950 Covid-19-related fatalities over 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday and recorded 77,000 new cases. Florida has become the new epicenter since partially reopening its economy with a total of 11,466 new Covid-19 cases over 24 and 128 deaths. Roughly 400 people are being hospitalized daily in the state.

MLS, NBA quarantined at Disney

Despite the increase in cases in Florida two of the major sports leagues in the US have decided to continue their seasons in Orlando: the MLS and the NBA are quarantined inside the Disney sports complex and so far there have been no reported cases of Covid-19.

White House health expert Dr. Anthony Fauci stated his belief that the spike of new cases in the US is due to several states not following guidelines correctly or reopening for business too soon. There have also been many instances of people not following safety guidelines amid the pandemic.
