MLS is Back tournament: Portland and Orlando to meet in the final
Orlando City defeated Minnesota United and Portland Timbers defeated Seattle Sounders to reach the MLS is Back tournament final to be played on Tuesday.
Everything is set for the MLS is Back tournament with Portland Timbers and Minnesota United set to play the final on 11 August at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Both teams made it past the semi-finals played earlier this week.
Philadelphia Union lost to Portland Timbers 2-1 in Wednesday's semi-final and the head coach Gio Savarese said that “they have been dreaming” about reaching the final since the announcement of the tournament.
“We came here to compete and to get to the final. It is what we were striving for,” Savarese told reporters.
Orlando City faced Minnesota United yesterday and the ‘home’ team won 3-1 and two of those goals were scored by the captain Luis Nani. The path was not an easy one for Orlando City as they defeated LAFC in the round of 16 and then eliminated Montreal Impact.
Latin American coaches
The final of the MLS is Back tournament will be played on Tuesday 11 August at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Both coaches are from Latin America: Giovanni Savarese manages Portland Timbers and was born in Venezuela, while Orlando City’s coach is Oscar Pareja from Colombia. The team that wins will qualify to participate in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.
