The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government Housing Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs. The agreement, for the lease of residential properties, is designed to expand accommodation options on offer to visitors attending the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It underlines Qatar's desire to collaborate with all state institutions in order to ensure that the showpiece event not only delivers to every expectation but also is one which is worthy of the name of the State of Qatar and strengthen its position in the sporting world.

An article published by the state-run Qatari News Agency explained that the agreement confirms the aspiration of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (the body responsible for managing 2022 World Cup projects in Qatar), for all sectors of the Qatari community to participate together to organise a tournament to remember. This is will especially relevant once all of the facilities for the World Cup are completed. The signing of this memorandum of understanding ensures that there will be a greater range of accommodation available for guests visiting the country for the World Cup.

The Qatari agency confirmed that 150 properties have been approved - including, rental apartment buildings, tower blocks and complexes which will provide 15,000 rooms for guests attending the World Cup. It means that the 2022 World Cup will mark a moment in history for future generations and confirm that Qatar can assume the responsibility of staging one of the biggest sporting events in world sport.

Private and public sector participation

The agreement of understanding is another development in a series of achievements which have been carried out since Qatar obtained the rights to organize the 2022 World Cup; it also confirms Qatar's desire to have all state sectors play their part in organizing the world showpiece event.

The article also made a reference to information published in Qatari newspaper, Al-Yom, which announced the completion of the first phase of the project. Securing thousands of rooms to house guests during the World Cup through an alliance with the private sector is in line with the vision of Qatar 2030. And establishing accommodation arrangements now, two years before the start of the 2022 World Cup, through direct collaboration with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, is a clear demonstration that Qatar is ready to host the World Cup. That, together with the ongoing preparations for the subway, hotels and other sports facilities, shows that an unprecedented World Cup is in store.
