Chris Richards has surprised Bayern Munich coach Flick
Bayern Munich’s coach said that the former FC Dallas academy player Chris Richards has been impressive at centre back and deserves the minutes he has played.
Chris Richards made his first appearance this season with Bayern Munich on 18 September. The 20-year-old centre back played 17 minutes in Bayern’s 8-0 victory against Hoffenheim last week. Richards has been with the German giants since 2018 after playing a full year with the FC Dallas academy.
“Richards absolutely deserves the minutes he has got. The young players have to learn something everyday. Chris has very good qualities, he is strong and knows how to jump for the ball,” said Flick to ESPN.
Richards spent all last season with FC Bayern Munich II and only played six minutes with the first team against SC Freiburg. During his time with the second team he played 30 games and scored 4 goals for a total of 2679 minutes in the domestic league.
Tough competition in Bayern
The 20-year-old hopes he can consolidate his place in the first team and compete with David Alaba, Jerome Boateng and Niklas Sule. He arrived at Bayern from FC Dallas academy and his transfer fee could reach $5 million if certain personal performances are met.
