Amazon Smile: Shop with a conscience this Prime Day
Amazon has made it super simple to donate to charity while you shop through their site. Simply make your purchases after following the steps to pic a charity of your choice (there are over 1 million to choose from) and then shop as normal.
Just remember to start browsing through the Amazon Smile page first.
If you don't have a specific cause in mind but want to make a difference, there's a handy tool where you can narrow down by categories such as environment, religion, animals and many more, until you find a charity to donate to that suits you.
Amazon then pledges to donate 0.5% of eligible purchases to your chosen cause. As of September 2020 the plat form has generated $215,721,458 of donations.

With the Apple H1 Headphone Chip, the bluetooth connectivity is unparalleled and at only $174.99, down from $249.95, that's a saving of $75.00 or 30% off.
AirPods, Echo Dot, TVs and more first up
The first set of offers available include the third generation Echo Dot, with a whopping 68% off taking it down to $23.99 (remember Amazon are desperate to get people into their ecosystem, so use these Prime Day deals to entice people in - and of course all the margin on the product is theirs anyway, making it easier to slash the price). But if you’re in the market for a home speaker, the Dot is a pretty solid offering.
There’s also $60 off a Toshiba 32-inch Fire TV, taking it down to $119.99, which is 33% off. If you’re looking for a smaller smart TV it’s not a bad option, with voice remote with Amazon’s Alexa and other smart TV, er, smarts. But it’s only 720p HD, as opposed to the more detailed 4k, but with a 32-inch panel that’s not such a big issue. It’s also got a host of input and output options, including three HDMI inputs, along with Wi-Fi.
One of the most interesting deals up first is Apple’s original AirPods for $114.99 down from $159.00. That’s 28% off. The headphones are still full price on the Apple website. These are class leading bluetooth headphones and if you’ve had your eye on them for some time they are well worth grabbing at this price point. The H1 bluetooth chip in them is specifically designed to work with Apple gear, but pairs well with other brands too and gives a notably solid connection. The basic AirPods don’t offer a wireless charging case, charging with the lightning cable, and offer five hours of listening time on one charge from the buds themselves, with 24 hours of listening time in the battery in the case.

What will be on sale this Prime Day?
Last year, it was the Amazon coat, Crest Whitestrips and 23andMe.
This year, it will likely be geared toward people staying in. Other top contenders include iRobot Roomba or Shark vacuums and the always popular Instant Pot. Other areas that are sure-fire deal hotspots as always: smart home products, tablets, smartwatches.
TOP TIP: Don’t panic!
You’ve got a second shot at this all over again when Black Friday rolls around on November 27, so think twice before panic buying, under the pressure of a countdown clock or rapidly plummeting stocks.
Do you really want this item? Would you buy it full-price? Is it really the perfect gift? If the answer is a resounding yes, GO FOR IT! And enjoy the adrenaline rush of knowing you got a great discount.
Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day?
Due to covid-19, Prime Day was delayed until today, (Prime Day usually takes place in July). So in 2020, you have two chances to do your holiday shopping at discount rates, instead of one.
Should you be jumping in head first to Prime Day, or wait until Black Friday on November 27? Well for one, remember that Black Friday is an event observed by lots of retailers, and not just the online behemoth Amazon.
But two things which could sway you towards making the most of today’s deals:
It’s over a month until Black Friday, so the October sale has less of a “panic buy before Thanksgiving and Christmas” feel to it.
Secondly, we don’t know if the deals will be on different products on Black Friday, so if there’s something you know you want, and it’s discounted today – go for it!
The discounts in 2019 were largely comparable across both Black Friday and Prime Day, average discounts on clothing and electronics were 20-25%.
Amazon and other retailers also tend to limit the number of products sold at ‘doorbuster’ pricing anyway. So even if something ‘sells out’ during Prime Day or a competitor's sale, that doesn't mean there's nothing left for Black Friday.
Over 70% of people plan to do their holiday shopping earlier this year, which might have an impact on stocks of popular gift items.
