Could Donald Trump Jr. run for president in 2024?

Though his father still hasn’t accepted defeat to Joe Biden, rumours have already started about Trump's offspring running for office in 2024..

Donald Trump Sr. will be legally allowed to run for office again in four years’ time; the constitution dictates that presidents are able to serve a maximum of two terms in office. Whether he feels like it, however, remains to be seen. Only one president has ever been elected after a four-year break and that was Grover Cleveland who served as president from 1885-1889 and then again from 1893-1897.

If Trump decides against running again, that wouldn’t stop any of his children from running for office in his place. At present bookies’ odds reflect that this is a genuine possibility. It would allow the family to harness the popularity of Trump’s name among his hard-core base while simultaneously refreshing the MAGA brand.

Who are Donald Trump’s children?

Donald Trump has five children; Donald Jr., 42, Eric, 36, as well as daughter Ivanka, 39, who already serves as a White House adviser. His other two children are too young to run for office; daughter Tiffany, 27 and teenage son Barron, 14. To run for president a candidate must be at least 35 years old.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka could certainly think about running for office in 2024. She’s spent the past five years as an advisor to her father, and the four years in office as ‘Senior Advisor to the President’, which according to her profile entails focusing “on the education and economic empowerment of women and their families as well as job creation and economic growth through workforce development, skills training and entrepreneurship”. Washington Post journalist Sarah Ellison reported that Ivanka is Donald Trump’s favourite of his five children and shares similar traits to her father.

Trump’s third child Eric is executive vice president of the Trump Organization, taking charge of his “global real estate empire” and has also had an integral role in Trump’s re election campaign 2020, alongside Ivanka and Don Jr. Eric.

Brad Parscale, former Trump campaign manager, teased the idea of the Trump offspring attempting presidential runs in September last year, saying: 'The Trumps will be a dynasty that will last for decades.'

Who is Donald Trump Jr?

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son who helps run the Trump Organization as an executive vice president and has been one of his father’s most active surrogates this year, will be leaving the White House before Biden is sworn in on 20 January and will therefore be job-hunting.

Fuelling rumours of a potential candidacy, Donald Jr. posted a photo of a “Don Jr. 2024” flag to instagram.

Donald Trump Jr. wrote that it will “make the lib heads explode” and that “to whomever made [the sign] thanks for the compliment… but let’s get through 2020 with a big win first.”

Do voters support Donald Trump Jr running for office?

Neither Donald Junior nor Ivanka should consider running for office, voter said in a new poll by The Independent. Voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea of a Trump dynasty, with 61% saying neither Mr Trump Jr, 42, nor Ms Trump, 38, should not run.

Only 16% of American voters thought Don Jr should dedicate himself to politics. Among Trump voters the support was only slightly better, only 35% thought he should run, while 31% disagreed.

The Independent commissioned JL Partners for the survey, and they spoke to 1,002 Americans from 26 October to 28 October.
