Both teams have reached 10 points, with Fernando Santos' men topping the standings due to their superior goal difference. This week Portugal destroyed  Andorra (7-0) in a warm up clash, while opponents France suffered a shocking loss to Finland (2-0).

Cristiano Ronaldo, the key factor

Portugal will try to beat the French team in order to take a giant step towards defending their title after securing a 0-0 draw in Paris last October. To do so, Santos will call upon Cristiano Ronaldo, who will be featuring in the staring line-up. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 102 goals with his national team and will be willing to extend his scoring records on Saturday.

Rui Patricio will be returning in goal while the defense line will likely be formed by Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro.

The midfield should be for Bruno Fernandes, William Carvalho and Danilo Pereira, while rising star João Félix, Bernardo Silva and Cristiano Ronaldo will be menacing France’s defence line.

Griezmann's time to shine again?

As for France, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is expected to be back together with defenders Raphael Varane and Lucas Hernández. N’Golo Kanté should start in midfield, while Antoine Griezmann could feature from the start. The French forward will be willing to impress in a big game against Portugal after a poor start of the season with FC Barcelona.

Didier Deschamps could also have Kingsley Coman available for the match. Bayern Munich’s forward picked up an ankle problem during training but it doesn’t seem to be a serious problem. Kylian Mbappé hasn't recovered from a thigh injury in time to play against Portugal.
