Your Texas Benefits: how to log in and get the check
What state benefits you could claim in Texas, how to find out if you qualify and how to claim.

In Texas there are five types of state benefit programs, aimed at helping people with little or no money who are in need. The five programs are as follows:
- SNAP Food Benefits: Helps families buy food for good health.
- TANF Cash Help: Helps families with children age 18 and younger pay for basic needs.
- Health Care: Helps cover visits to doctors, dentists, and hospitals. Also covers medicines ordered by doctors and dentists.
- Support Services: Helps people with daily living needs, caregivers, and people with mental health, drug or alcohol issues.
- WIC Food Benefits: Helps pregnant, breastfeeding women and families with children younger than 5 buy healthy foods.
How do I login?
Creating an account or logging into an existing one couldn't be simpler. Follow this link and follow onscreen instructions.
What do I need to have ready to apply?
Be ready to answer questions about the person(s) applying such as:
- Social Security number and birth date
- Citizenship or immigration status
- Money from jobs and other sources
- The value of cars and other property
- Costs you pay for bills
Before logging in and making a claim
You can check out the prescreening tool. Answer some basic questions to find out which benefits and support services you might be able to get.
When you're done, you can create an account to apply for benefits and send your info to support services to be contacted by programs.
Or if you don’t need to make a claim but would like to one of the services to make contact with you, you’ll need to make your account for free and make contact through your account.
With an account, you will also be able to save your support service screening forms and check the status of any you have already filled out.

There’s also an app, and you can choose to go paperless too.
Unemployment benefits
For unemployment benefits information see the Texas Workforce Commission website and remember that it recently reinstated its work search requirements for any Texans on unemployment.

Since June, it has not been required for applicants to perform work searches to receive unemployment due to the pandemic, but that has now changed.
According to James Bernsen, the Texas Workforce Commission’s Deputy Communications Director, “Texas is beginning to open up more and more businesses have found ways to open up and do so safely, that we think bringing back work search is more appropriate right now.”
