Experiencing buyers' remorse after a Black Friday impulse purchase? Never fear, many stores have extended their returns policies for the festive season.

Walmart, Amazon and Macy´s: Black Friday returns policies
DPA vía Europa Press

Bought something in the bargain frenzy that is Black Friday you now regret? Got your eye on something you'd prefer to spend those pennies on in the Cyber Monday sales? No need to stress. We’ve got the rundown of returns policies for Walmart, Amazon and Macy’s.

Walmart Black Friday returns policy

Walmart has extended its standard return policy for items purchased between the dates 16 October and 25 December as many items purchased in this window are gifts. The extension allows a little more time to return unwanted items.

Returns are available for nearly everything Walmart sells. Your purchase history on Walmart.com displays the latest eligible date for a return or replacement, however, it's recommended you keep track of all manufacturer packaging and your receipt for a minimum of 90 days after purchase.

Items purchased from dealers or resellers and not Walmart or Walmart.com directly are not eligible for return, refund, or exchange. The return button will be shown in your Purchase History next to the item.

If your standard return window is:

  • 14 days: Return by January 8, 2021
  • 30 days: Return by January 24, 2021
  • 60 days: February 23, 2021
  • 90 days: 90 days from delivery date

Please note that as part of their covid-19 response, Walmart temporarily doesn’t allow store returns on certain items. For the most up-to-date information just go to their Policies and Guidelines site.

Damaged or Defective Items: if an item you received from Walmart.com is damaged or defective, you can return by mail for a refund or replacement or at any Walmart store for a refund.

Amazon Black Friday returns policy

Similar to Walmart, for the holiday season 2020 Amazon are also offering an extended returns period. On its website Amazon says that “most of the items shipped between October 1 and December 31 can be returned until January 31, 2021.”

If your item came from a seller on Amazon, rather than being fulfilled by Amazon itself, you’ll have to check with the seller’s individual returns policy to be sure that the extension still applies. Be sure to check whether you should send the item back to Amazon or a different seller. This information will be in your Amazon account under the relevant order listed in “Orders”. While most sellers offer a returns policy equivalent to Amazon.com's, some seller returns policies may vary.

Macy’s Black Friday returns policy

Great news! Macy’s follows suit in a holiday returns extension too. Purchases made between now and December 31, 2020 may be returned by either January 31, 2021 or the last date allowed under the normal applicable return policy, whichever is later.

Not so great news! There are a few glaring exceptions at Macy’s to this extension, for which products the normal Macy’s return policy applies: items must be returned within 90 days of purchase.

Exceptions to Macy's returns policy extension:

Apple Products
Tech Accessories
Tech Watches
Last Act Merchandise
Furniture
Mattresses
Area Rugs
Lighting
Designer Merchandise
Vendor Direct Merchandise
Bluemercury Merchandise
Macy’s Beauty Box
Food & Beverage
Macy’s Optical.

For each of the exceptions above, you’ll find a link with specific information on the Macy’s website.

Only items purchased online can be returned by mail and shipping and delivery fees are non-refundable.
