Real Madrid player ratings vs Atlético Madrid
Real Madrid put in a fine performance to beat neighbours Atlético 2-0 on Saturday and we have highlighted the exceptional performers on the night.
Real Madrid can claim bragging rights in the Spanish capital for the next few weeks after a convincing 2-0 win over cross-city rivals Atlético Madrid.
Real Madrid's player ratings from the derby victory:
Courtois
It was not a difficult game for the Belgian goalkeeper. His only real effort for the cameras was slapping away Carrasco's corner come shot in the first half. He kept the game at 2-0 with 10 minutes to go on the clock, saving well from a diving header from Saúl. 7/10
Carvajal
Returned after an injury layoff. Accompanied down the right wing by the in-form Lucas Vázquez, which offered solidity and an attacking outlet. Madrid's attacking threat came from that side but defended diligently when called upon. A superb strike came off the upright and Jan Oblak to double Madrid's lead on the night. 8/10
Varane
Held the back four together alongside captain Ramos in the heart of the defence. Kept Luis Suárez quiet. 7/10
Ramos
The team is much safer with their leader. Excellent in the air on the night, winning several set-piece aerial battles to clear danger. A close range free-kick was blasted into the wall as he looked to wrap things up from a dead ball opportunity. 8/10
Mendy
Installed confidence down the left side, starting ahead of Marcelo. Had a right-footed shot sail over the bar. Overall, a solid display from the Frenchman. 7/10
Modric
Another fine performance from the Croatian, following a midfield exhibition against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League during the week. 8/10
Casemiro
Picked up a yellow card that will prevent him from playing against Athletic Club on Tuesday. Excellent header from Kroos' corner to put Madrid ahead on 15 minutes. 8/10
Kroos
Played his part in Madrid's first half dominance. Took the corner for Casemiro's header to put Los Blancos 1-0 up. Was quieter in the second half. 7/10
Lucas Vázquez
Great display from the versatile Galician, who is going from strength to strength for Zidane's side. Offered Carvajal protection down the right wing, while giving Madrid an option offensively. Almost scored in the 89th minute when he was playing as a winger, but was denied by Oblak. Is it time for a Spain call-up? 8/10
Benzema
Came deep to link the play and was unplayable at times. Broke the record for the foreign player with the most games played in the history of Real Madrid, with 528 appearances. 7/10
Vinicius
Quiet evening for the young Brazilian. Offered help defensively and can take confidence in Zidane's decision to select him for a big match. 6/10
Substitutes
Asensio
Has lost his place in the team, due to a lack of form. Now, Vinicius, Lucas and Rodrygo seem to be ahead of him in the winger pecking order. 6/10
Rodrygo
Had a few minutes in the derby, in which he played in a free role. 6/10
