Genk finalizing Philadelphia Union deal for McKenzie

After several weeks of negotiations, KRC Genk and Philadelphia Union are closing on a deal for Mark McKenzie in the January transfer window. According to Sky Sports News, the Belgian side will pay a fee of €5m for the 21-year-old defender, who will join the club as soon as the deal is finalized.

“The two clubs have been locked in negotiations over the festive period and are now close to agreeing a fee, which could rise to nearly 5 million euros,” tweeted Sky journalist Anthony Joseph.

The United States international defender has scored two goals and provided one assist in 59 appearances with Philadelphia Union. McKenzie is no stranger to the referee's book,  receiving 11 yellow cards in MLS, but he has never been sent off as a professional.

McKenzie has been capped twice by the United States men’s national team. He played 28 minutes against Costa Rica on his debut and then the full 90 minutes against El Salvador in December. The move to KRC Genk could be finalized in the next couple of days.
