What banking transactions can I make on MLK Day?

If your bank branch is closed on Monday, January 15th, don’t worry. You can still perform a variety of transactions. Many ATMs accept deposits, and you can withdraw cash or check your balances at ATMs. You’ll be able to handle those tasks so long as your preferred ATM isn’t locked inside the building.

Additionally, online banking services will remain accessible. For instance, you can use your bank’s mobile app to deposit a check and schedule bill payments, transfers, and more. However, these services may not be fully processed until the business day or two after the holiday.

Making a deposit and recurring payments on MLK Day

If you made a deposit in-branch last week, it may take up to six days (including the holidays and weekends) for your deposit to become available because of MLK Day. Although you can still deposit on MLK Day through your online banking portal, the transaction will not be processed until the day after. To ensure that your recurring payments are not affected by weekends or federal holidays, you should schedule them for the last business day before the weekend or federal holiday. It’s important to note that the cut-off times for processing deposits and payments before a federal holiday can vary between banks and even among different branches. If you’re unsure about your bank’s cut-off times, it’s always best to contact them directly.

However, some post office services remain available online 24/7, including on holidays. With a USPS.com account, you can order stamps, print shipping labels, order boxes, and other mail supplies, and request package pickups.
