Real Madrid team news: just 12 first team players available for Getafe
Zinedine Zidane will only have 12 first team players available when Real Madrid host Getafe on Tuesday night in LaLiga as Eder Militao joins the injury list.
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has been left with just 12 first team players ahead of Tuesday evening’s game against Getafe at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano.
Eder Militao has followed Álvaro Odriozola to become the latest player to join the injury list. Odriozola had to be taken off in the 67th minute against Huesca on Saturday due a hamstring issue in his right leg.
Meanwhile it turns out that Militao, who missed the Huesca match due to suspension, has an issue with his adductor. Both players will undergo tests before Tuesday’s game, but their absence against Getafe is almost a given.
Real Madrid’s injury list headache for Zidane
Even before expectations that Militao and Odriozola would be ruled out for Tuesday, Madrid’s casualty list was already quite long. Eden Hazard and Sergio Ramos did not train this Sunday due to their respective injuries. Yesterday it was confirmed that captain Ramos could miss up to two months following surgery on the meniscus of his left knee.
The recovering Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez, Fede Valverde and Rodrygo all combined work on the grass with exercises in the gym, as did Isco, who was ruled out at the last minute before the trip to Huesca due an issue with his back that he felt at the end of Friday’s training session.
Aside from these injured players, Toni Kroos will also miss the Getafe game due to suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow of the season against Huesca.
Zidane, therefore, will only have 12 first team players available for Tuesday, two of whom are goalkeepers. They are Thibaut Courtois, Andriy Lunin, Nacho, Raphael Varane, Ferland Mendy, Marcelo, Casemiro, Luka Modric, Marco Asensio, Vinicius, Karim Benzema and Mariano, as well as Diego Altube, who is a regular with the first team as the third-choice goalkeeper.
Zidane calls on youth for Real Madrid-Getafe
Two Castilla players had already been called up for the trip to Huesca: Marvin, who once again enjoyed minutes after making his debut in the first league game against Real Sociedad, and Víctor Chust.
This Sunday, Antonio Blanco also trained with the first team. The midfielder, whom Zidane has called upon on three occasions this season, could not travel to Huesca due to a one-match suspension he picked up with Castilla. With Zidane’s options in central midfield reduced to Casemiro and Modric, there is a good chance Blanco could feature at some point against Getafe.
