Daughter of Lombardi Trophy creator wants Tom Brady apology

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV at the Raymond James Stadium on 7 February. Three days later, the Bucs held an aquatic boat parade to celebrate the second title in the history of the franchise and Tom Brady’s seventh ring.

During the celebration, Brady tossed the Lombardi Trophy to tight end Cameron Brate between boats and that created controversy for some people. One of them is the daughter of the family who designed the trophy on a napkin in 1966, a year before it was presented to the first Super Bowl winner.

It just upset me that this trophy was disgraced and disrespected by being thrown as if it was a real football,” Lorraine Grohs told Fox4.

Lorraine Grohs is the daughter of Greg Grohs, the master silversmith at Tiffany and Company from 1967 to 1994. Lorraine said that Brady disrespected the trophy and the people who work so hard to craft it.

I have a big history of this trophy being made by my father and it’s such an honor and I know all the craftsmen that made it when my dad was there also at Tiffany’s and it takes a lot of hard work,” Grohs said.

I personally would like an apology, not just to me and my family and the other silversmiths but to the fans, all the football fans and the other team players. I’ve seen this trophy being made at the factory at Tiffany’s and it’s a beautiful trophy,” Grohs said.

“My father had to chisel the seams. He had to chisel the seams by hand. There is a newspaper article that shows him working on that trophy. The ball is hand-formed and the base is as well,” she added.
