Thomas Tuchel believes Timo Werner's goal against Newcastle United will give the Chelsea striker the "last percentage of belief".

Werner remembers how to score

Werner ended his wait for a first Premier League goal since the November 7 win over Sheffield United, scoring Chelsea's second in a routine 2-0 win.

The former RB Leipzig forward had set up the opener for Olivier Giroud and doubled the lead by scoring for the first time in 1,000 minutes and after a run of 31 unsuccessful attempts.

"For the strikers, the last percentage of belief comes from goals," Tuchel told a media conference.

"He worked very hard, he was very decisive. Again today with an assist and a goal, this is a super, super point for him."

Tuchel, though, believed Chelsea were not ruthless enough in the box, pointing to that as a key area for improvement with fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Manchester United on the horizon.

He told Sky Sports: "I liked the first half where we played with courage and had a lot of touches in the box and lots of shots, 12 to three and kept them away from our box and did not allow any chances.

"During the whole match we lacked precision in the box and the decision-making can be more deadly, more precise and decisive to create more from our half chances."

The win moves Chelsea into the top four, with Werner eager to keep the focus on the team rather than the end of his miserable run in front of goal.

"First half was really good from us, we played very good football," said Werner to Sky Sports. "Happy that I scored finally and there's still a long way to go but if we keep going like this it will be a good end for us.

"As a striker you always want to score, the last month was hard, I was not happy with not scoring. But it's a team sport, when we win everything is good. Helping my team with assists and glad I scored today.

"For a striker it's worse when you can't get in the right situations and have the chances. I've had a lot of chances which I've missed, my team brought me a lot of situations where I could score today, when I keep going the goals will come like today and the assists as well."
