LALIGA SANTANDER

LaLiga wide open after Barça, Atleti and Madrid results

Real Madrid were the beneficiaries over the weekend as Atleti lost at home to Levante and Barcelona let points slip at Camp Nou. Sevilla are in action on Monday.

El tropiezo del Atleti provoca que el Madrid pueda asaltar el liderato en el derbi de marzo. El Sevilla, de tapado, podría quitar el tercer puesto al Barça.

Just when it appeared that Atlético Madrid were odds-on to run away with the 2020/21 LaLiga campaign, two games against Levante this week have derailed Diego Simeone's dreams of winning the domestic campaign again for the 'Rojiblancos'. Real Madrid have availed of the slip and now just three points separate the Madrid sides with Barcelona eight points behind Atleti after they saw Cádiz grab a point with a late 1-1 draw at Camp Nou. Sevilla could leapfrog the Catalan side with a win on Monday night as they travel to Pamplona to face Osasuna. March and April now look like being dramatic months in the league with Real Madrid facing Atleti on 7 March.

Packed schedule

Of the four LaLiga contenders, both Barcelona and Sevilla are still involved in three competitions with Andalusian and Catalan sides set to meet on 3 March in the second round of the 2020/21 Copa del Rey at Camp Nou with Lopetegui's men ahead (2-0) from the first leg. There is also the matter of the second El Clasico of the season with Koeman's side to face Real Madrid at Valdebebas on 11 April.

May decider

The matchday 35 round of games could be pivotal in deciding the outcome of the title with all four sides facing one another in what will be a pulsating round. Sevilla travel to the capital to face Real Madrid with Barcelona facing Atleti at Camp Nou and it's the Catalan side who (on paper at least) would appear to have the easiest fixture run-in.
