Chivas rescue a point in Querétaro on matchday nine
The team from Guadalajara scored a late goal in stoppage time to tie the game and rescue a point in their visit to the Corregidora stadium.
Chivas came into matchday nine after defeating Pumas UNAM 2-1 and obtaining their first victory at home in the 2021 Guardianes tournament. They wanted to keep the winning streak going in their visit to the Corregidora stadium, but only managed to rescue a point against Querétaro.
Late goals secure Chivas the draw
The home team would strike first in the 38th minute thanks to Hugo Silveria, who rifled in a shot to find the back of the net. When Querétaro thought they would return to the locker room with the advantage, ‘JJ’ Macías received a pass from Alexis Vega to equalize before the first half ended.
During the second half, Isaac Brizuela came into the game to give Chivas the extra boost they were lacking in the first 45 minutes. Both teams had a few chances at the start of the second half, but it was not until the 75th minute that Querétaro took the lead during a set-piece play, Kevin Ramírez heading the ball past Raúl Gudiño to give the home team a 2-1 lead.
It seemed that Querétaro was going to take the three points, but Chivas would have the last word. The referee gave four minutes of added time and the visiting team would take advantage of that. In the 94th minute, Miguel Ponce became the hero and with his header, following a corner-kick, leveled the scores.
Chivas rescued a point in their visit to Querétaro and they remain in 10th place with 11 points in nine games. They have to turn the page quickly because on 6 March they have to face Mazatlán on matchday 10 of the 2021 Guardianes tournament.
