Christian Pulisic returns to the starting XI after two months out

Christian Pulisic is having a hard time earning a starting role at Chelsea in his sophomore year and since manager Thomas Tuchel took over the manager job. The United States international has only started twice in twelve games across all competitions. On Saturday he made his first Premier League start under Tuchel in Chelsea’s scoreless draw against Leeds United.

Over two months since last start

Prior to Saturday's game, Pulisic’s only start was in the FA Cup on 11 February as Chelsea beat Burnley to advance to the next round. Since then he has been used as a substitute playing between 10-30 minutes when Tuchel decided he was needed.

Against Leeds, Pulisic started on the right wing and after a strong first half, he started ‘disappearing’ from the game and was replaced in the 68th minute by Reece James. Another failed opportunity for Chelsea’s No 10 to showcase his talent and prove that he deserves to be a starting player for the remainder of the season.

The ‘Blues’ remain in fourth place with 51 points after 29 games and a record of 14-9-6 in the Premier League. They have a short week to rest because on Wednesday they play against Atlético Madrid for the second leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League. Chelsea remains undefeated in their last 12 games across all competitions and they have the advantage of 1-0 against the LaLiga side.
