Xabi Alonso back to Bundesliga
According to Bild, the German club have chosen the former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich player to replace Marco Rose, who will leave the club this summer to take charge of Borussia Dortmund. Alonso began his coaching career in the summer of 2018 at Real Madrid's youth academy. In July 2019 he signed for his old club to take charge of La Real's reserve team and in less than two years he has managed to turn them into one of the top sides in Segunda B.
Now, according to these reports from Germany, he is on the verge of returning to the Bundesliga where he starred for Bayern in the final years of his playing career. Gladbach are currently in a very poor run of form and are tenth in the Bundesliga, but they can still sneak into Europe, which could see the midfielder who represented the Spanish national team with such distinction tested at home and abroad.
The reports state that Gladbach's sporting director, Max Eberl, had kept silent when asked about the signing of Alonso, continuing his strategy of giving few clues away about the numerous rumours that have arisen about Rose's replacement. Wolfsburg's Oliver Glasner and Werder Bremen's Florian Kohfeldt were other names in the mix, but it now looks like an agreement has been finalised.
Although not yet official, even his good friends have been caught up in the excitement, then quickly deleting their post. Another sangria, Luis?
