Over 15.5 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in California, which is 78% of the total 19.8 million doses that have been delivered to the state.

With 287,379 doses being administered on average per day, around 33% of the state’s population over the age of 16 has now received at least one dose, while around 18% have been fully vaccinated.

With the vaccination drive moving quickly, the eligibility requirements have been expanded across the state. But those requirements can vary depending on which county you’re in.

A growing number of California’s 58 counties have broken with state health guidelines, making the vaccine available to millions of additional people as they ease eligibility rules, while other counties continue to enforce stricter requirements.

In parts of the Bay area, for example, anyone over 50 can receive the shot immediately. In San Diego, the vaccine is available to anyone with asthma or Type 1 diabetes, while in San Francisco, anyone who is HIV positive or considered obese is now eligible.

On 15 March, LA County opened its vaccination program to people who are pregnant or have BMIs of 40 or higher, cancer, chronic kidney disease of stage 4 or above, chronic pulmonary disease, Down syndrome, compromised immune system from solid organ transplant, sickle cell disease, heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies (excluding hypertension), and Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

That comes two weeks after LA authorities extended the vaccination program to those in TIER 1B, which includes teachers and workers in childcare, emergency services workers, and food and agriculture workers.

California has launched the MyTurn website which allows all Californian residents to check their eligibility and make appointments at mass vaccination sites.

For those that are not currently eligible, they can also sign up to be notified when it's their turn.

Individuals who do not have access to the internet can sign up for an appointment by calling My Turn’s toll-free hotline (833) 422-4255, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MyTurn website now available in 12 languages

On Monday the California Department of Public Health announced the My Turn website would be expanded to offer its services in 12 languages, up from seven languages the week prior.

“California’s remarkable wealth of diversity is always top of mind as we create and perfect the tools that will ensure every resident can easily access life-saving COVID-19 vaccines — regardless of the language they speak,” said Tomás Aragón, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer.

“The My Turn website and hotline play a key role in alerting Californians when they are vaccine eligible, and helping them schedule an appointment, so we want to ensure it is accessible to everyone.”

The website is now available in Armenian, Japanese, Khmer, Punjabi, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and English.
