PSG 0-1 Bayern Munich (3-3 agg) result, summary goals, Champions League 2020/21

Update:
Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain and Lucas Hernandez of Bayern Munich during the UEFA Champions League, quarter-final, 2nd leg football match between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich on April 13, 2021 at Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, France

PSG-Bayern Munich: UEFA Champions League

Paris St Germain reached the Champions League semi-finals despite a 1-0 home defeat by Bayern Munich as the title holders bowed out on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate result on Tuesday.

Eric Choupo-Moting scored the only goal of a mesmeric encounter before the interval but it was not enough to overturn the German side's 3-2 loss in last week's first leg.

PSG, who had struggled at times in Munich, had the clearest chances but lacked efficiency, with Neymar hitting the woodwork twice and Kylian Mbappe's speed again proving tough to handle.

Mauricio Pochettino's PSG side, however, kept their composure in a nerve-wrecking finale to book their spot in the last four against Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund as they look to reach the final for the second year in a row.

Despite the loss (0-1) on the night, the away goals in Bavaraia are enough for the Ligue 1 side to progress.

Manchester City or Dortmund await the Parisian side in the semi-final.

The whistle sounds and PSG have eliminated the 2019/20 champions !!!!

94

Last throw of the dice here for the German side as Sane slots the ball into the box but far too close to Navas. That surely is the final chance for Bayern.

91

Nerves jangling here at Parc des Princes. PSG on the cusp of a Champions League semi-final berth as Neymar breaks into the box and Lucas knocks the ball away for a corner. More valuable time slipping away for Bayern.

90

4 minutes of additional time to be added.

No rush here for PSG to take their throw in as Herrera is carded

90

PSG break and Mbappe almost finds Neymar but Neuer is alert.

Another change as Herrera is set to make an entrace as he replaces Di Maria who has been excellent

87

Nerves here in Paris now. Bayern pushing and PSG aware that one goal against would result in possible elimination.

Muller gets a shot off but the linesman has the flag raised.

85

Last five here in Paris. PSG deserve to progress from what we've seen tonight. The Bundesliga side certainly miss Polish striker Lewandowski.

Scrappy as Bayern push, Coman manages to win a corner with Choupo-Motin off for Javi Martinez

82

Sane weaves into the box and just pulls the ball inches wide. As close as Bayern have come during this second half.

81

Kimmich to take a dangerous free and the whistle sounds as Navas is fouled ... poor call from the ref as Navas colliudes with a PSG player.

80

Game open now as Bayen push and leave wide open space. Just ten minutes left for the reigning champions to find that goal that would see them progress.

The ball is in the Bayern net as Mbappe rifles into the roof of the net. Flag goes up and no goal !

77

Kean on the ball for the first time and the Italian striker gets under the ball and fires over.

75

More urgency now for Bayern as they sense time ticking down. 15 remain and still Navas not really been tested excessively in this second half.

Kean on for Draxler ...second PSG switch of the night

71

Less than 20' remain in Paris, the tie still beautifully poised with just one goal enough for the German side to progress.

Change for FCB, Musalia on for Davies

Leroy Sane looks like Bayern's danger outlet ! The former Man City man is electric on the right flank.

69

My word, Mbappe dispossesses Sane close to his goal line. Incredible work rate from the 22-year-old!

Muller carded for a lunge on Paredes.

67

Bayern have yet to really convince despite their lead. PSG look resolute in defence and at present Navas just called upon for a handful of interventions in this second half but nothing you'd call a clear-cut chance from the men in red.

Some tricks from Neymar and Di Maria and Draxler fires into the box but Neuer gets down to grab the in-bound ball.

Sane finds Muller in the six-yard area but Navas is alert and averts the danger. Bayern in the ascendancy at the moment, We've seen much less from Di Maria and Mbappe compared to the first half.

60

30' remain in Paris. One senses that Bayern do believe they can get this goal as PSG sit deeper and look to pounce on the counter.

Diallo off with Bakker his replacement. Looks like a muscular problem for the PSG defender.

Play held up as Diallo seems to have picked up a knock and it looks like the defender needs to be replaced.

Neymar corner to Di Maria who drives wide as Dagba is carded for a foul on Coman.

54

Oh my word, PSG almost draw level with wonderful play from Di Maria and Neymar is just inches away from tapping the ball into the net. Get the feeling that it may not be Neymar's night

52

Coman breaks into the left channel but blazes the ball well over the PSG bar.

Bayern win a corner as the game is open. Hernandez penalised for shoving and PSG win a free out.

49

Neymar breaks free in the box but drives the ball over the bar.

47

Bayern go close again as the ball falls to Alaba who steers the ball wide.

46

Rugged challenge between Neymar and Boateng and the Bayern man comes off the worse for wear.

The home side will get the action underway. An intriguing 45' ahead... PSG still with a slender advantage.

The sides are back on the Parc des Princes pitch as ref Orsato and PSG manager Pochettino exchange words.

FCB

Tonight's goal scorer Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting of FC Bayern

PSG

It's 0-0 in Seville between Chelsea and FC Porto at the break. The English side lead (2-0 on agg.)

The Bayern goal really does set up the contest beautifully for the second half. Bayern need to push and get that all important second goal but ensure that they keep PSG at bay. Neymar and Mbappe look sharp tonight and the Brazilian has gone close twice for the Ligue 1 side. All to play for here at Parc des Princes with a place in the Champions League semi-final on the line.

The whistle sound in Paris as Bayern head in with a 0-1 lead.

46

Sane again with his trusty left foot but fails to get the purchase he wanted and Navas saves with ease.

45

2 minutes of added time have been confirmed by the fourth official.

Heading towards the break and Bayern ahead despite riding their luck twice when Neymar struck the woodwork.

44

Alaba from distance, fine strike and Navas did well to tip the ball past the post

42

Bayern still need another goal and to keep the Ligue 1 side at bay. The game is now beautifully poised.

41

A goal very much against the run of play after PSG rattled the Bayern woodwork twice. Despite their lead, Bayern have been much too predictable in their attack.

Goooooool

Bayern take the lead after Navas palms back a shot and Choupo-Moting is on hand to nod home.

39

Neymar and Mbappe link up well again and the Brazilian strikes the post

37

Free for PSG after Boateng handles in a tussle with Mbnappe. Di Maria and Neymar over the ball and the Argentine drives the ball as they ball falls to Neymar who checks and drills the ball off the bar. A major let-off for Bayern.

33

PSG press again with fine play from Di Maria, Mbappe and Neymar who forces a fine save from Neuer.

Don't forget a 0-1 or 1-2 win is not good enough for Bayern. They need to win by two clear goals or a scoreline higher than 2-3 (3-4) would suffice!

Di Maria threads the ball through and this time Mbappe is a shade offside

30

Goal-less here and the same scoreline in Seville with Chelsea 0-0 FC Porto.

27

Mbappe breaks and unselfishly passes to Neymar but fine save from the German to deny the striker. The game very open now as Neymar goes to ground and appeals for a penalty. Nothing doing for the Italian referee.

Now Kimmich goes close with another long range drive. The German side going close

Possession: PSG 49-51 FCB (%)

26

Fine play from Sane as he goes close for Bayern. His left footed effort just whistling wide of the PSG goal.

24

PSG are so, so good in moving the ball forward. They seem destined to score from one of those quick breaks as Bayern push that bit more forward.

Both these teams are rumoured to be the interested parties in securing the services of Real Madrid's Lucas Vazquez next season with the Galician out of contract with the Bernabeu side.

20

Bayern with a chance but the ball just doesn't fall kindly. PSG break and Di Maria, Neymar and Mbappe combine but the final ball is poor and Neuer gathers.

The Argentine appears okay to continue.....

17

Di Maria has fallen badly and looks in a fair degree of pain. It was a tangle with Davies and his knee seems to have taken a bang. Moise Kean warming up as a precautionary measure.

Davies loses his footing as has Lucas on a number of occasions, a longer stud certainly needed with the pitch heavily watered ahead of the game.

The 'Allez Paris' mosaic I mentioned earlier

15

Approaching the 15' mark and neither keeper have really been called into action. Bayern dominating but PSG looking dangerous on the break.

12

A barrage of fireworks go off outside the stadium as it's Bayern who are now enjoying the better of the action.

11

Alaba gets the ball but some theatrical antics from Neymar sees the ref. call for a free for PSG.

9

Bayern now enjoying a sustained spell of pressure. It's fair to say at this point that Choupo-Moting is no Lewandowski as PSG launch a counter with Mbappe wreaking havoc every time he has the ball.

The Parc des Princes has been decked out in a seating tifo with 'Allez Paris' llegible which looks spectacular.. Will try and get a pic up during the first half.

6

First foray forward from the German side but Costa Rican keeper Navas is alert and gathers.

5

It's the men in blue enjoying the better of the opening minutes with Bayern struggliong to get the ball forward.

Close as Mbappe just drives the ball past Neuer's post. Lightning pace from the striker who timed his run to perefection.

Neymar for PSG is also just one card away from automatic suspension.

The pitch in immaculate condition with no rain forecast in the French capital unlike the scenes we saw in Munich last week with the match played in freezing conditions with a steady snow-fall.

The German side get the game underway....

Kimmich, Boateng and Lucas are one card away from suspension for FCB.

The Champions League anthem belts out at an empty stadium. Fingers crossed that next season as the vaccine roll-out takes effect, we can see a return to the stands for the lifeblood of the game in the fans.

The teams are in the Parc des Princes tunnel. PSG looking calm and composed and we're all hoping that we get the same level of entertainment as we saw last week in Bavaria. PSG have lost a few times this season falling to the likes of Marseilles, Lyon and Ligue 1 table topping Lille.

PSG-Bayern (AS English predictions)

The (ahem) AS experts have cast a glance into the AS English crystal ball with the following match predictions:

David: PSG 1-2 FCB

Rob: PSG 2-1 FCB

Paul: PSG 2-0 FCB

* we all see PSG progress !

KM

Mbappe: record breaker

Today, Kylian Mbappe is 22 years and 115 days old. No player has scored more than his 27 goals in the Champions League by that age. For reference, Lionel Messi had 18, Raul 12, Wayne Rooney 12 and Cristiano Ronaldo three at the same vintage.

DO

Daniele Orsato (Italy) is tonight's match official.

Only one scoreline could produce extra time tonight (a 2-3 win for Bayern) with initial feelings being that PSG may just have a little too much against an injury ravaged German side who are without talisman goal machine Robert Lewandowski.

In the other semi-final tonight, Chelsea look good to progress following their 2-0 first leg win over FC Porto. That game will take place in Seville due to Anglo-Portuguese covid travel restrictions.

After the first leg quarter-final results, both Man City and Chelsea are being touted as favourites to lift the Champions League at the end of May in Lisbon. Bayern have slipped back a little from their previous tag as favourites to retain the trophy the won last August in Lisbon.

For those just joining us, a reminder of the starting line-ups:

KM

Mbappe pre-game stats

Mbappé was on target twice in the first leg and has eight goals in as many appearances for PSG in the Champions League this season. If he nets again on Tuesday, he will set a new record for the most goals by a French player in a single Champions League campaign, surpassing David Trezeguet in 2001-02 and Wissam Ben Yedder in 2017-18.

Should he score against Bayern once more, he will have netted in four consecutive knockout appearances for the second time in his career, having done so with Monaco in 2017, and would become the first PSG player to achieve that feat.

Hansi Flick pre-game

"He will win the Ballon d'Or one day, I am absolutely convinced of that," said Flick on Mbappe. "He has everything. He is fast, he has good technique and – most importantly – he scores a lot of goals."

"He is very dangerous,", with our style of play, space will automatically be created. "Neymar and Mbappé usually stay up front, they don't defend but they stay in a dangerous situation for a counter-attacking chance. You're never going to be able to keep them out of the game completely."

MP

Pochettino pre-game:

"I agree that we've been better away from home," the Argentine told a news conference on Monday.

"It is something we will have to look into at the end of the season but let's hope things start turning around tomorrow."

In principle, it will be difficult for Marco to start while Alessandro Florenzi's situation will be assessed tomorrow," added the coach.

"It was already hard to keep the ball against Barcelona already, it doesn't matter who is playing. It's a question of collective attitude," he explained.

"It's a challenge for tomorrow, being able to keep the ball and hurt the opposition.

"The Barça game is behind us and the Bayern game is another story. There will be moments when we will struggle and it's in these moments that we will need to show solidarity and solidity."

A reminder that draw on the Road to Istanbul has already been paved with the winners of tonight's quarter-final set to face the winners of Man City-Dortmund in the semi-final.

FCB

It was a game the German side dominated in terms of possession with the Bundesliga side managing 31 shots on the PSG against 6 for the visitors. Despite the positive scoreline for the Ligue 1 outfit, it's Bayern who are fancied to claim a place in the 2020/21 Champions League semi-final.

PSG

A reminder that the first leg in Bavaria ended in a 2-3 win for PSG.

Here's how that game unfolded at the Allianz Arena

Bayern absentees: Flick must do without Gnabry, Roca, Lewandowski, Costa, Tolisso and Hoffman

PSG absentees: Marquinhos (a major doubt) with Bernat, Icardi and Kurzawa are all missing for the French side.

Injury concerns plague both managers with key absentees for both French and German champions ahead of the second leg.

Kick-off at the Parc des Princes is 15:00 ET/21:00 CEST.

Hello and a very warm welcome to our live Champions League coverage as we bring you the quarter-final (second leg) from Paris where PSG face Bayern Munich.
