PSG 0-1 Bayern Munich (3-3 agg) result, summary goals, Champions League 2020/21

Paris St Germain reached the Champions League semi-finals despite a 1-0 home defeat by Bayern Munich as the title holders bowed out on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate result on Tuesday.

Eric Choupo-Moting scored the only goal of a mesmeric encounter before the interval but it was not enough to overturn the German side's 3-2 loss in last week's first leg.

PSG, who had struggled at times in Munich, had the clearest chances but lacked efficiency, with Neymar hitting the woodwork twice and Kylian Mbappe's speed again proving tough to handle.

Mauricio Pochettino's PSG side, however, kept their composure in a nerve-wrecking finale to book their spot in the last four against Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund as they look to reach the final for the second year in a row.

Despite the loss (0-1) on the night, the away goals in Bavaraia are enough for the Ligue 1 side to progress.

Manchester City or Dortmund await the Parisian side in the semi-final.

The whistle sounds and PSG have eliminated the 2019/20 champions !!!!

The Bayern goal really does set up the contest beautifully for the second half. Bayern need to push and get that all important second goal but ensure that they keep PSG at bay. Neymar and Mbappe look sharp tonight and the Brazilian has gone close twice for the Ligue 1 side. All to play for here at Parc des Princes with a place in the Champions League semi-final on the line.

Bayern still need another goal and to keep the Ligue 1 side at bay. The game is now beautifully poised.

A goal very much against the run of play after PSG rattled the Bayern woodwork twice. Despite their lead, Bayern have been much too predictable in their attack.

Neymar and Mbappe link up well again and the Brazilian strikes the post

Free for PSG after Boateng handles in a tussle with Mbnappe. Di Maria and Neymar over the ball and the Argentine drives the ball as they ball falls to Neymar who checks and drills the ball off the bar. A major let-off for Bayern.

Don't forget a 0-1 or 1-2 win is not good enough for Bayern. They need to win by two clear goals or a scoreline higher than 2-3 (3-4) would suffice!

PSG are so, so good in moving the ball forward. They seem destined to score from one of those quick breaks as Bayern push that bit more forward.

Both these teams are rumoured to be the interested parties in securing the services of Real Madrid's Lucas Vazquez next season with the Galician out of contract with the Bernabeu side.

Bayern with a chance but the ball just doesn't fall kindly. PSG break and Di Maria, Neymar and Mbappe combine but the final ball is poor and Neuer gathers.

Di Maria has fallen badly and looks in a fair degree of pain. It was a tangle with Davies and his knee seems to have taken a bang. Moise Kean warming up as a precautionary measure.

Davies loses his footing as has Lucas on a number of occasions, a longer stud certainly needed with the pitch heavily watered ahead of the game.

Bayern now enjoying a sustained spell of pressure. It's fair to say at this point that Choupo-Moting is no Lewandowski as PSG launch a counter with Mbappe wreaking havoc every time he has the ball.

First foray forward from the German side but Costa Rican keeper Navas is alert and gathers.

It's the men in blue enjoying the better of the opening minutes with Bayern struggliong to get the ball forward.

Close as Mbappe just drives the ball past Neuer's post. Lightning pace from the striker who timed his run to perefection.

Neymar for PSG is also just one card away from automatic suspension.

The pitch in immaculate condition with no rain forecast in the French capital unlike the scenes we saw in Munich last week with the match played in freezing conditions with a steady snow-fall.

The Champions League anthem belts out at an empty stadium. Fingers crossed that next season as the vaccine roll-out takes effect, we can see a return to the stands for the lifeblood of the game in the fans.

The teams are in the Parc des Princes tunnel. PSG looking calm and composed and we're all hoping that we get the same level of entertainment as we saw last week in Bavaria. PSG have lost a few times this season falling to the likes of Marseilles, Lyon and Ligue 1 table topping Lille.

Mbappe: record breaker

Today, Kylian Mbappe is 22 years and 115 days old. No player has scored more than his 27 goals in the Champions League by that age. For reference, Lionel Messi had 18, Raul 12, Wayne Rooney 12 and Cristiano Ronaldo three at the same vintage.

Daniele Orsato (Italy) is tonight's match official.

Only one scoreline could produce extra time tonight (a 2-3 win for Bayern) with initial feelings being that PSG may just have a little too much against an injury ravaged German side who are without talisman goal machine Robert Lewandowski.

In the other semi-final tonight, Chelsea look good to progress following their 2-0 first leg win over FC Porto. That game will take place in Seville due to Anglo-Portuguese covid travel restrictions.

After the first leg quarter-final results, both Man City and Chelsea are being touted as favourites to lift the Champions League at the end of May in Lisbon. Bayern have slipped back a little from their previous tag as favourites to retain the trophy the won last August in Lisbon.

Mbappé was on target twice in the first leg and has eight goals in as many appearances for PSG in the Champions League this season. If he nets again on Tuesday, he will set a new record for the most goals by a French player in a single Champions League campaign, surpassing David Trezeguet in 2001-02 and Wissam Ben Yedder in 2017-18.

Should he score against Bayern once more, he will have netted in four consecutive knockout appearances for the second time in his career, having done so with Monaco in 2017, and would become the first PSG player to achieve that feat. 

Another late injury problem for Bayern Munich with the Bavarian club confirming that midfielder Leon Gortetzka is also an absentee.

"He will win the Ballon d'Or one day, I am absolutely convinced of that," said Flick on Mbappe. "He has everything. He is fast, he has good technique and – most importantly – he scores a lot of goals."

"He is very dangerous,", with our style of play, space will automatically be created. "Neymar and Mbappé usually stay up front, they don't defend but they stay in a dangerous situation for a counter-attacking chance. You're never going to be able to keep them out of the game completely."

Pochettino pre-game:

"I agree that we've been better away from home," the Argentine told a news conference on Monday.

"It is something we will have to look into at the end of the season but let's hope things start turning around tomorrow."

In principle, it will be difficult for Marco to start while Alessandro Florenzi's situation will be assessed tomorrow," added the coach.

"It was already hard to keep the ball against Barcelona already, it doesn't matter who is playing. It's a question of collective attitude," he explained.

"It's a challenge for tomorrow, being able to keep the ball and hurt the opposition.

"The Barça game is behind us and the Bayern game is another story. There will be moments when we will struggle and it's in these moments that we will need to show solidarity and solidity."

A reminder that draw on the Road to Istanbul has already been paved with the winners of tonight's quarter-final set to face the winners of Man City-Dortmund in the semi-final.

It was a game the German side dominated in terms of possession with the Bundesliga side managing 31 shots on the PSG against 6 for the visitors. Despite the positive scoreline for the Ligue 1 outfit, it's Bayern who are fancied to claim a place in the 2020/21 Champions League semi-final.

A reminder that the first leg in Bavaria ended in a 2-3 win for PSG.
