Bastian Schweinsteiger rejects European Super League

The announcement of the European Super League (ESL) a breakaway venture by 12 clubs to play their own midweek games, has been widely rejected by the teams that were left out and also by vast swathes of fans around the world of football. Many former players and coaches have raised their voice against the ESL after the renegade 12 European clubspresented their new competition.

The ESL will “destroy the world of football”

David Beckham, who played for Real Madrid and Manchester United, and is now the co-owner of Inter Miami CF spoke out against the creation of the European Super League. Another former player who disagrees with the ESL is the German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, who used his Twitter account to express how saddened he was with the news.

If the Super League is realized, it will destroy football with its national leagues as we know it and this is very sad thought to me,” he wrote.

The world of football has been highly vocal in its rejection of the decision taken by Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan. UEFA has utterly rejected the creation of the ESL and is considering options to ban the teams who joined from their competitions.
