Chivas came to the Jalisco stadium, saw Atlas, and conquered the lastest edition of the Clásico Tapatío on matchday 16 of the 2021 Guardianes tournament. In the 81st minute of the game a great solo play by Alexis Vega and a gorgeous backheel finish by Ángel Zaldivar gave Chivas the victory and the three points.

The home team would have one last chance towards the end of the game to level things up. Brayan Trejo collected the ball outside the box and rifled an effort towards the goal defended by Toño Rodríguez. Unfortunately for Atlas the ball hit the post and the referee ended the game.

Late run for the playoffs

Chivas has defeated Atlas in six consecutive matches in the rivalry of Guadalajara and this was a key victory because they climb up to 8th place with one game left of the regular season. Both teams have 22 points, but Atlas has a better goal difference so they keep the seventh spot.

A few weeks back the team from Guadalajara was not in the playoff picture, but now they are about to secure a spot in back-to-back tournaments. Chivas has won their last three games and their next rival will be Tigres UANL on 1 May at the Akron stadium in a vital match that will define their future.
