Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has recovered from covid-19 and returned to the training pitches at Valdebebas as he seeks to regain full fitness following a calf injury that has caused the defender to miss the last six fixtures Zinedine Zidane’s side have played. Ramos has been stricken with injury problems of late, first undergoing knee surgery and then tearing a muscle on international duty with Spain.

However, Ramos is nearing a return and has been stepping up his training regime at home and at Valdebebas under the watchful eye of Madrid’s fitness coaches as he seeks to get back on the pitch to help out during the run-in for the Liga title and the Champions League.

Ramos set for Osasuna and Chelsea

Both Madrid and the club captain have set a tentative return date: 5 May, when Zidane’s side travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between the clubs. Madrid’s plan is to hand Ramos some playing time against Osasuna in LaLiga before the European clash so that he is fit to start in London.

Ramos has started working with the ball at Valdebebas and if all goes according to plan he will rejoin group training towards the end of next week. However, Zidane operates a zero risk policy with injuries and will not rush his captain back until he is 100 percent.
