There will be no NFL games in Mexico in 2021

For the second year in a row the National Football League has decided that there will be no regular season game at the Azteca stadium this season.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
There will be no NFL games in Mexico in 2021

Earlier this year the National Football League (NFL) was optimistic that a series of regular season games could resume in England and Mexico during the 2021 season. The two venues that the NFL had in mind were the Azteca stadium in Mexico City and the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London. According to The Athletic, the NFL’s annual game in Mexico will not happen this year for a second season in a row.

Since 2016 the NFL has scheduled a regular season game in Mexico to increase the popularity of the sport as part of the league’s ‘International Series.’ This is the third time that the league has decided to cancel the annual game at the Azteca stadium. In 2018 the game between the Chiefs and Rams was moved to Los Angeles due to the terrible conditions of the field and last year due to the coronavirus pandemic in addition to the travel restrictions between the two countries.

NFL returning to London

According to the report, due to the number of cases of coronavirus in Mexico, the league has decided to postpone this year's annual game at the Azteca stadium. As of 11 May, Mexico has a total of 2.37 million cases of covid-19 and 219 thousand people have died from the virus.

The good news is that the NFL will return to London where the Atlanta Falcons will face the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium during the 2021 regular season. The reason behind this decision is that the United Kingdom has the coronavirus more under control as opposed to Mexico.
