Real Madrid put in their final training session in Valdebebas today in preparation for tomorrow's meeting with Granada. With Barcelona dropping points at Levante, and with the hope that Atlético Madrid might do the same against Real Sociedad later tonight, Madrid's chances of contesting the league title will depend on whether they can get a positive result against Diego Martínez's side.

Marcelo won't be making the trip south. The Brazilian, who turned 33 today, has been dropped from the list. It's an important absence as he is the only left-back in Zidane's squad who is fit. The coach is expected to field Castilla's Miguel Gutierrez in his place. The coach has included just four defenders in his squad for the game.

The good news from today's session was the return of Álvaro Odriozola. The Basque full-back suffered a strain in the Sevilla game and had exercised apart in the previous two sessions. However, he rejoined his team mates for today's session which is a relief for Zidane, who doesn;t have any other available right-backs. If Odriozola is deemed not 100% tomorrow, the coach will drop Fede Valverde back into the right-back position.

With Odriozola back, can at least field a back four, but he is without all of his first-choice defenders. Against Granada, the defence which will line up in front of Courtois will comprise Odriozola, Militão, Nacho and Miguel Gutierrez. Castilla's Marvin also trained with the first team squad today and is another option at the back against Granada.

Varane nearing return

Those that were not seen out on the practice pitches were Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez, Sergio Ramos and Férland Mendy. All four are likely to miss the remaining games of this season. Raphaël Varane trained indoors and could make his return in Bilbao for the penultimate game, against Athletic Club on Sunday.
