Dogged Arsenal beat Chelsea in London derby

LONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 12: Emile Smith Rowe of Arsenal celebrates after scoring their sides first goal with team mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on May 12, 2021 in London, Englan

Chelsea vs Arsenal: live!

FT: Chelsea 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal take all three points in the London derby at Stamford Bridge.

It's Arsenal's first league double over Chelsea since 2003/04.

Thomas Partey gets booked for diving in the Chelsea box. Silly really, he just falls over. The better option would have been to head with the ball towards the corner flag.

Arsenal clear!

Another Chelsea corner! Arteta can't watch!

We're two minutes into the six that have been added on. It remains 1-0 to Arsenal.

Chelsea are pushing for the equaliser now!

Zouma's effort is pushed onto the bar by Leno, it then falls to Giroud who smashes the rebound off the bar.

Mount doesn't beat the first man. That sums up their night.

Pulisic wins a corner for Chelsea!

OFF Bellerín

ON Chambers

Bellerín will in fact be going off.

Chelsea have not had a shot on target since the 27th minute - they're heading for a defeat here.

Chambers has been warming up, but thankfully Bellerín is now back on his feet.

Bellerín has only been on the pitch 15 minutes and this doesn't look good.

Bellerín defends really well to clear a Chelsea cross. He looks to have injured himself in the process.

Aubameyang is frustrated coming off, he's had a tough night, defending from the front.

Arsenal change

OFF Aubameyang

ON Lacazette

Odegaard takes the free-kick from the left wing. It eventually falls to Kepa. Down the other end, Leno has had nothing to do in this second half.

This win would take Arsenal to 55 points.

Arsenal have defended well down their left-hand side, with Tierney and Smith-Rowe. Pulisic and James have been kept quiet.

Arsenal have never lost to Chelsea midweek in the Premier League! (Opta)

Chelsea are not firing tonight. David Moyes will be watching on quite happily. The game is made for Giroud. We might even see Werner come in.

Bellerín shoots!

Good play down the left from Arsenal. The cross is sent in, finds Odegaard, who lays it off to Bellerín. It's hit low and straight at Kepa.

Giroud comes on against his former side.

Chelsea change

OFF Havertz

ON Giroud

Arsenal change

OFF Saka

ON Bellerín

Héctor Bellerín is going to come in for Arsenal.

Arsenal are about to make a change.

So it's still 1-0 to Arsenal.

The quickly has been disallowed!

There is no way this goal will stand, he's a couple of yards offside.

Pulisic is offside!

This is attack against defence, remember the old Arsenal under Wenger? Well, yeah, not tonight!

Hudson-Odoi receives a pass on the edge of the box, he looks to curl it into the far top corner. He's leaning back, sending it high and over.

Arsenal are keeping it tight so far.

Chelsea have 80% possession in this second half and 63% across the whole game but they're losing 1-0.

Chelsea have only lost twice under Tuchel, versus Porto and West Brom, who have just been relegated to The Championship.

Havertz goes down in the box. Doesn't look like a penalty at all. Play will resume with a Chelsea throw.

Chelsea have started where they left off, on the front foot, with all the ball.

And we're underway for the second half!

Chelsea change

OFF Gilmour

ON Hudson-Odoi

Smith Rowe's 16th minute goal has the away side leading at the break. It's been all Chelsea so far but they haven't been able to break down the Arsenal backline.

HT: Chelsea 1-0 Arsenal

Everybody is back within 30 yards of Leno's goal.

Arsenal have defended well but haven't threatened Chelsea on the counter yet. I expect Chelsea to eventually break them down.

It's all Chelsea now! Arsenal defending quite deep and soaking up all the pressure. Chelsea haven't been able to break the Gunners down. Smith Rowe's goal has Arteta's team ahead.

Zouma heads the corner back into the box. Gabriel clears for Arsenal.

Good defending from Elneny as Chelsea look to break through once again. Mount to take the corner.

Pulisic heads over from the resulting corner. The US international should be hitting the target there.

Mount and Havertz link up out on the right flank, but there’s no way through for them.

Chelsea are creating but still haven't been able to put the ball away. Arsenal leading 1-0 as we approach the half-hour mark.

Arsenal are defending quite deep now as Chelsea hold possession.

Ball falls to Mount! Good save from Leno!

Pulisic wins a Chelsea throw over on the far side of the pitch. Aubameyang has a cut lip and has to get it patched up. Arsenal are down to 10 men temporarily.

Thomas Partey has given the ball away three times so far. A sloppy start for the former Atlético Madrid player.

Arsenal lead here, they hadn't threatened before but now find themselves ahead!

Chelsea 0-1 Arsenal

Jorginho mishits his pass back toward goal, Kepa scrambles back to save the efffort from going in, it falls back out to Smith Rowe, who makes it 1-0 to the Gunners.

SMITH ROWE puts Arsenal in front!

Havertz went for power there, when he could have rolled it by Leno. Huge chance!

That's a huge let off for Arsenal. Havertz nicks it from Mari on the halfway line, finds himself one-on-one with Leno, but sends his effort over the bar.

Saka is offside, after receiving a through-ball from Aubameyang. Bright start from Arsenal here.

Odegaard is being marked quite closely by Azpilicueta.

Mason Mount strikes from the left-hand edge of the box, but it's not a test for Leno in Arsenal goal.

Billy Gilmour gets a rare start for Chelsea tonight.

Chelsea are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions and have claimed 22 points from 27 on offer in London derbies this season.

Arsenal are playing into the Matthew Harding Stand in this first half.

Chelsea are playing from right to left as we watch it.

We're underway at Stamford Bridge!

The teams are in the tunnel at Stamford Bridge ahead of kick-off in four minutes.

Tuchel: Chelsea benefitting from Lampard work

Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea are finishing the job started by an "amazing" Frank Lampard ahead of a vital few weeks for the Blues.

Chelsea boss Tuchel has been lauded for the dramatic turnaround in results he has overseen at Stamford Bridge since his January appointment.

His side will compete for FA Cup and Champions League glory against Leicester City and Manchester City this month and are in control of their own destiny in the race for a top-four finish.

Tuchel, though, was not shy in recognising the contribution made by his predecessor and fan favourite Lampard in making those opportunities for silverware possible.

"Frank had an amazing record in the group stage of the Champions League," said Tuchel, who received a good luck message from the Englishman early in his tenure but has not been in contact since.

"He won all the FA Cup games. He's laid the foundation to get us to finals and we don't feel ashamed or have any fear to speak it out loud.

"It felt like that on the first day. I am aware Frank created his own legacy as a player and made it bigger as a coach.

"We stepped in halfway through the season and tried to fulfil the job he had began.

"Frank resembles everything you think about Chelsea. You think about Frank Lampard, the way he is, how he played football.

"This shows his character and the message he sent was a pleasure to receive. We had a message a couple of days after we arrived but nothing more."

Ok then, I'm going to say Chelsea 3-1 Arsenal.

Tuchel's Chelsea favorites against the Gunners

A win for the hosts would be important to cement their position among the top four teams, although Chelsea are also thinking about their Champions League final against Manchester City and the FA Cup final showdown with Leicester City on May 15.

Arsenal will have a tough task against Chelsea if they want to upset Tuchel’s squad, as the Blues are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions and have claimed 22 points from 27 on offer in London derbies this season.

Chelsea closing in on Champions League qualification

Arsenal 12 points off Chelsea

Arteta's men were eliminated from the Europa League in the semi-finals and approach a midweek match with Chelsea ninth in the Premier League.

Arsenal are 12 points off Chelsea and the top four – Champions League qualification no longer a possibility with three games remaining – and four points shy of seventh, which is set to be enough to reach the Europa Conference League.

They are also four short of last season's points tally, which was their lowest since 1994-95.

Arteta not pleased with entire Arsenal squad

Mikel Arteta hinted at dissatisfaction with some players in his Arsenal squad as he suggested only "the majority" had given their all this season.

Arteta has discussed the need to rebuild in the transfer market, with some members of his team already performing to the extent of their underwhelming potential.

But others have let Arsenal down, the manager suggested.

Asked if his players had given their maximum, Arteta replied: "With the majority of them, yes.

"Some of them can get to a certain level and you cannot push them any further. You want to evolve them but it's not possible.

"When I said a majority, I did not say all of them. Some have a big contribution to make to those results."
