Barcelona vs Celta Vigo live online: updates, scores and highlights | LaLiga Santander

Ronald Koeman said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s final home game of the season against Celta Vigo (available to subscibers in the US on Fanatiz) that he didn’t feel his side had thrown away their shot at the Liga title in one of the most closely contested races in recent history in the Spanish top flight. However, Barça fans may disagree and there have been several occasions where Koeman’s side cold have exerted a stranglehold on the competition with a bit more defensive acumen.

The most recent example, when Levante overturned a 2-0 deficit at the Ciutat de Vàlencia to earn a 3-3 draw, was one of the more damaging for Koeman’s long-term prospects, exhibits A, B and C for the Dutchman’s detractors could be dropping four points against newly promoted Cádiz, losing 2-1 to Granada in April after going ahead and, most damagingly of all in some eyes, an inability to beat a fairly pedestrian Real Madrid side over the course of two Clásicos – six points that would currently have Barça sitting top.

None of the title contenders will look back on this season and feel that they crushed the opposition – as Koeman pointed out, both Atlético and Madrid have dropped their fair share of points – but Barça are now reliant on other sides to do them a favour in their pursuit of the Liga title. Celta, for their part, have been one of the league’s more entertaining sides this season and have been involved in several big-scoring games and sit comfortably in the top 10 despite a negative goal difference, evidence of the Galician side’s own sometimes shambolic defensive stylings. Whichever way this one goes, there are likely to be a few goals in it.
