FC Barcelona vs Celta Vigo: live

FC Barcelona's title push crashed and burned today at Camp Nou as Ronald Koeman's men fell to a home defeat to Celta Vigo.

Things started well for the Catalan side as they penned the men in sky blue back, enjoying huge spells of domination and they saw their pressure pay off when Messi headed home from a pin point Sergio Busquets cross. Celta finally crossed the Barcelona half and with their first foray into enemy lines on the 37th minute, Santi Mina drew the Galician outfit level with Ter Stegen unsighted.

The second half resumed in familiar fashion with the side in claret and navy enjoying the bulk of possession and just as it seemed Barcelona would have to settle for a point which would have ended their title bid, Celta poured salt in the wound as Santi Mina bagged a late winner to bring the curtain down at Camp Nou on a topsy-turvy season for the Catalan giants.

And as for the title race, Atleti travel to Valladolid who are fighting for their lives. Real Madrid face Villarreal who will have one eye on the Europa League final. This is high octane drama and it will all unfold next Sunday!

Two from Huesca, Elche and Valladolid will join Eibar next season in Segunda.

Eibar are relegated. Villarreal, Real Betis and Real Sociedad will play in Europe next season.

T

and the league table heading into the final day of the season....

Here's all the full time scores from this dramatic penultimate day in Laliga

But here at Camp Nou it's defeat for FC Barcelona with the Catalan side set for a third place finish in the 2020/21 LaLiga table.

The game between Atleti and Osasuna is still being played with Simeone's side 2-1 ahead.

FT at San Mames and it's Athletic 0-1 Real Madrid

Celta win, Barcelona's title hopes are over!

Messi dives wide and Barcelona's season is about to draw to a disappointing close with a home defeat.

Change for Celta as Sotelo replaces Beltran

A goal for Athletic at San Mames now could secure the title for Simeone's men.

The ball strikes the bar from Solari and falls nicely for Mina who rifles the ball past Ter Stegen.

Gooooooool Sant Mina puts Celta ahead.

Messi steams and swerves by a sea of sky blue players. Barcelona running out of juice here at Camp Nou and minutes away from ending their title aspirations.

88

Braithwaite is through and with the goal gaping steers the ball wide.

Solari through on goal and fires straight at Ter Stegen as Celta break.

Pjanic on or Ilaix. A rare appearance for the former Juve man.

Lodi pulls Atleti level ..... 1-1 now at the Wanda Metropolitano and just five minutes remaining.

More bad news for the Catalan side as they have to play the final minutes with ten men. No Lenglet for the game vs Eibar too!

Lenglet gets another yellow and the French man is off

LL

Live LaLiga table

As we stand with ten minutes remaining in all LaLiga games, Barcelona's title hopes would end with Real Madrid topping the table by one point.

Baeza on for Celta, Aspas making way

Atleti now go behind to Osasuna with Budimir putting the men from Pamplona ahead.

15' remain here at Camp Nou and Barcelona lacking a cutting edge despite the changes. A very different performance from the home side in the second half.

The only goalless game of this dramatic matchday 37 is at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Lenglet fouls Aspas and is carded.

SB

Here's a live scorboard

Still 20 minutes remain across Spain ..... Drama at every ground with the title, European places and salvation on the line.

Barcelona need a goal to keep their slender hopes alive in the title race.

Another change for FCB: Griezmann on with Braithwaite on. Dembele too switched with Trincao on for the French winger.

68

Dembele again and this time the French player opts for the shot but Villar is alert and saves well.

67

Dembele again, this time the French winger finds Ilaix who heads wide

66

Celta living dangerously as Dembele fails to find a team mate after fine work.

Dest on for Pique, Koeman's second switch of the evening.

There was bad news for Gerard Pique as his FC Andorra side lost this morning in their play-off game to Real Sociedad B and thus ended their hopes to secure a place in Spain's second tier. Pique is a major share holder in the club.

60

Good work from Dembele as he drives to the by-line and delivers a fine cross but just Nestor is there to clear the danger for Celta.

Betis have just gone ahead against Huesca and that now sees Celta's slender chances of European football disapear.

Approaching the hour mark and all three games involving the title challengers are level. Real Madrid face Athletic at San Mames with a 0-0 scoreboard. The same situation at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Puig carded for a foul on Sant Mina.

55

Coudet ordering his reserve players on the bench today to warm up. Celta missing over 7 key first team players with many B teamers called up.

Decent long range hit from Ilaix but the ball whistles over the Celta bar

Great work from Puig as he wins a dangerous free for his side. Messi to take but nothing comes from the effort.

Barcelona switch off at the back with Nolito almost latching onto the ball as Dominguez is carded.

So many questions being asked about Ronald Koeman's future on the FCB bench. The Dutch coach shared a lunch midweek with president Laporta with nothing resolved. The coach did start abysmally poorly bit did manager to turn things around winning a Spanish Cup but recent results have complicated the Catalan's title aspirations.

It also has to be observed that Barcelona ahead of Laporta's election was something of an institution in total disarray !

We're underway at Camp Nou for this last 45' of LaLiga action this season in the Catalan capital.

Puig on for Pedri at the interval, first change of the evening.

The teams take to the Camp Nou pitch with the second half just minutes away.

LL

The half-time scoreboard:

Barcelona on top here at Camp Nou and despite their dominance, Celta drew level with Santi Mina firing past Ter Stegen with the German's sight on the shot being blocked by Pique. As things stand, Koeman's side are officially out of the title race.

Right on the 45' mark, the whistle sounds.

45

Barça, once again trying to recover their passing and possession game. The Celta goal seeming to have given a shot in the arm for the visiting side as we head towards the interval.

Reminder that a draw is no good to FC Barcelona and would end their title aspirations (should things stay as they are)

43

Messi aims to curl with the left foot and once again it's Fran Beltran on defensive duty to block the effort.

41

The Celta goal very much against the run of play and somewhat out of character with the just 30% possession being enjoyed by the Galician outfit.

11th goal of the season for Santi Mina.

Gooooooool Sant Mina with Celta's first shot of the night fires the ball into the Barcelona net with Ter Stegen wrong footed

35

Ten minutes remain in the first half with Celta yet to record a shot on the home goal. Ter Stegen is a solitary figure with little or nothing to do in the FC Barcelona goal.

Still no goals in Madrid or Bilbao and it looks as things stand that that title race could go to the final day of the season .... what does look likely is that relegation issues could be sewn up tonight with Eibar, Elche & Valladolid heading to the 2A as things currently stand.

32

Celta will need to amend their game plan. Clearly the Galician side have come to sit deep and try and frustrate Koeman's side but the goal will force Coudet to change things around.

Barça now need goals from Athletic and Osasuna....

FCB

This is how the live table looks:

Messi's 30th LaLiga goal of the season as the Argentine latches onto a fine assist from Busquets to drive the ball into the corner. A well deserved opener for the home side.

Messiiiiiiiii heads home and Barcelona take the lead. It was coming !

Regarding the other last day of the season fixtures involving the top three.... Barcelona are at Eibar, Real Madrid face Villarreal at home (just days before their Europa League final) with Atleti heading to Valladolid, who could also be a second tier side come 2030 this evening.

LM

Despite no confirmation from Leo Messi as to where he will play next season, surely it's too dramatic to suggest that tonight could be his last appearance for Barça at Camp Nou ?

Messi, Pique, Griezmann and Alba are just one card away from being suspended. Barcelona's final game of the season is away to Eibar who given the current series of results will be relegated tonight.

Here at Camp Nou, it's total domination from the home side but still nothing to really trouble Villar despite decent chances falling to Messi and Griezmann.

After 20' today:

Goals flying in around LaLiga but as yet none involving the top sides. Still goalless at San Mames at at the Wanda.

16

Messi almost gets in on goal after a delightful pass from Busquets. The Argentine just fails to control as Villlar gathers.

15

Great run from Dembele as the French player streaks from his own half with the move just let down with a poor final shot which Villar gathers at the second time of asking.

12

Griezmann robs the ball and tries to link up with Messi. Celta defending deep but it's all Barcelona on the ball. Ter Stegen a virtual spectator in the opening 12/13 minutes of action.

11

Celta with two banks of four and two strikers also on defensive duty as Messi picks up the ball in the box but Beltran clears the danger. The ball then falls to Griezmann and this time it's Celta keeper Villar to the rescue.

9

Celta now on the back-foot and it's the Catalan side starting to dominate possession.

There was bad news earlier on today for Barcelona as the 'B' team were eliminated in the play-off game by UCAM Murcia in the battle to secure a place to Spain's Segunda division. That was the first in three bug games for the Catalan club today.

6

Here at Camp Nou, both sides finding their way into the action.

Valencia go ahead against Eibar with 'Los Armeros' looking doomed. First goal of the afternoon.

Celta need to win and hope the likes of Villarreal, Real Sociedad and Betis slip up to secure their outside chance of a European place.

Last minute change for Celta as Aidoo picked up an injury in the warm up and he's replaced by 22-year-old Dominguez.

Off we go at Camp Nou!

The teams take to the Camp Nou pitch with Aspas and Messi involved in the coin toss for the last league game this season at Camp Nou.

GB

Barcelona president Joan Laporta will not be at Camp Nou tonight as the newly elected executive is in Gothenburg to watch the FCB women's side face Chelsea in the 2020/21 Champions League final.

There will be no fans present tonight at Camp Nou despite the government relaxing the rules on the return of spectators to LaLiga games with just the Galicia, Valencia, Murcia and Baleares regions having a low enough covid transmission rate to permit the return of a reduced number of supporters. The Barcelona autonomous region's cases are still deemed as too high to allow a return for fans this evening.

SS

A snapshot of how things look at the top of the table between the three title contenders. Barcelona's defending certainly a weak area this season despite their prowess in front of goal. Atleti once again miserly in conceding goals which has been one of the keys to this season's success.

Liga

A reminder of all the LaLiga action in store tonight with all ten games starting at the same time.

Plenty at stake with the title, European places and relagation spots on the line.

AS English FCB-Celta predictions

The AS English crew offer their following predictions ahead of the Camp Nou clash:

Paul: FCB 4-1 Celta

Cal: 2-0

Kieran: 3-1

We'll be covering all the three games this evening involving sides in the title race.

Cal is on Real Madrid's trip to Bilbao

and Kieran will be covering events at the Wanda Metropolitano where At. Madrid face Osasuna.

The corresponding fixture in LaLiga last season at Camp Nou ended in a 2-2 draw. Aspas and Maxi Gomez were on target for the Galicians with Suarez and Messi bagging the Barcelona goals. A similar scoreline tonight would end any outside chance Barcelona have of claiming the title.

Plenty of absences for Celta Vigo too with Sergio, Blanco, Tapia, Murillo, Mallo, Emre Mor, Fontan and Ferreya all missing for Coudet.

XI

Here's the formation and how both teams line-out this evening with Moriba in for the suspended De Jong at Barcelona with Dembele on wing back duty!

Tonight's match official at Camp Nou is De Burgos Bengoetxea

The teams news is out, first up FC Barcelona:

EC

European long shot for Celta

Tonight's visitors will be in no mood to roll over for FC Barcelona with the Galician still in with a very long shot of securing a European place. This is testament to Argentine manager Eduardo 'El Chacho' Coudet who took over when the side were rock bottom of LaLiga back in November.

LM

Messi's last home game at Camp Nou?

There is still a question mark hanging over the future of the Argentine and his continuity with the Catalan club. The relationship between both sides has improved since the departure of former president Bartomeu but the striker has insisted that he will only clarify his future once the season has terminated.

Everything points to Messi donning the claret and navy stripes next year but.....

RK

Roanld Koeman under the spotlight

Speculation is growing about Koeman's future on the Camp Nou bench. The Dutch coach said he has been mistreated by the media after the team's poor run of results that has all but put them out of contention in the Spanish title race, adding that he wanted to stay in charge next season if the club want him to.

The Catalans practically surrendered their chances of catching La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid after drawing 3-3 at Levante on Tuesday and trail them by four points with two games left.

"We won the Copa del Rey, we cut the gap with Atletico down by 12 points to fight for the title, but then if you look at the press coverage in the last few days it seems as if I've done a bad job," Koeman told a news conference on Saturday.

"It's not fair that one day everything seemed perfect and two weeks later everything is horrible."

Koeman has another year left on his Barcelon contract and said he would discuss his future with club president Joan Laporta later this month.

"We have agreed to talk at the end of the season," added the Dutchman.

"It's very important for a coach to work in a club where he has absolute confidence. If that's the case, I can and I'd like to stay."

During our live coverage, we'll keep you a breast of events from the other games involving the race for the title and indeed the fight to avoid the drop where as yet no side has been condemned to life in 2A.

A reminder of how the table looks coming into the penultimate game of the season. Barcelona are in third position with their title hopes being derailed after the recent home defeat to Granada and last Tuesday's 3-3 draw away to Levante. Barcelona need to win tonight and hope for a slip up from their competitors from the capital.
