Héctor Herrera is the fourth Mexican footballer to win LaLiga
Atlético Madrid won the 2020/21 LaLiga Santander title on the final day after defeating Real Valladolid 2-1 at the Estadio José Zorrilla on Saturday.
Mission accomplished for manager Diego Simeone and Atlético Madrid, who won the 11th Spanish title in the club's history on Saturday. The ‘Colchoneros’ defeated Real Valladolid 2-1 at the Estadio José Zorrilla thanks to a 66th-minute goal from Luis Suárez to win the 2020/21 LaLiga Santander trophy.
Herrera came in the second half
After Suárez gave Atlético the lead, Diego Simeone wanted to control the game in the midfield and brought in Héctor Herrera in the 85th minute, replacing Ángel Correa, who had equalized earlier in the second half. The former Porto midfielder played five minutes and with the title secured, he became the fourth Mexican footballer to win the LaLiga trophy in his second year with the ‘Colchoneros.'
Hugo Sánchez: five LaLiga titles
He is considered the best player in the history of Mexican football because of what he did in LaLiga during his time with Real and Atlético Madrid. Sánchez won the golden boot five times and five consecutive league titles with Real Madrid from 1986 to 1990.
Rafael Márquez: four LaLiga titles
He is considered the second best player, behind Hugo Sánchez, in the history of Mexican football and he left a legacy during his time at the Camp Nou. Márquez was the starting center-back when Frank Rikaard was in charge of FC Barcelona and he won the LaLiga title four times (2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010).
Jonathan dos Santos: three LaLiga titles
In 2008 he was in the youth academy of FC Barcelona and made his debut with the first team on 28 October 2009, coming on as a substitute for Seydou Keita in the 80th minute of a Copa del Rey match. Barça ended up defeating Cultural Leonesa 2-0 under manager Pep Guardiola. Jonathan made a total of 102 league appearances for Barça and Villarreal, scoring four goals and giving five assists. The Mexican international won three LaLiga titles (2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2012-2013) with Guardiola in charge.
