It is official 'JJ' Macias will not participate in the Olympic tournament with Mexico. Also it has been confirmed that the boss of the Mexican national team, Jaime Lozano, has until 2 July to submit the final 22-player roster for the summer tournament in Tokyo.

Diego Lainez is set to be the leader of the Mexico Olympic squad in Tokyo this summer. Prior to the warm-up game against Panama, the 21-year-old spoke about his decision of leaving Club América in 2019 to sign with the LaLiga side Real Betis. 

Personally, I made the best decision when I went to Europe and finished my development as a footballer. Everyone has their own opinion, but I know it was the best decision for my career. I would advise any young player to do what I did if you ask me,” said Lainez in an interview with Pasión W.

The stage is set at he Nissan stadium for the friendly between Mexico and Panama. This will be the final warm-up game for the Mexico Olympic squad prior to the start of the Tokyo tournament next month. Due to contract obligations, Gerardo Martino will manage the team, but Jaime Lozano will be next to him serving as an assistant coach.
